Stressing over snowmaggedon

I am schedules to work this Friday through Monday 7A-7P. I live 1 hour away from work. The forecast is calling for at least a couple of feet of snow. My manager tells me that the hospital will put up cots in our unit for us to sleep on. I am an introvert and need to recharge alone. 4 12s sucks anyway but not being able to go home makes it so much worse. Sleep does not come easy for me and I rely on a ritual and I don't function well without it.

I am already feeling my anxiety rise. I am making reservations at a hotel close to the hospital but I'm basically working for nothing because of the cost. Just wanted to vent.

Save your receipts for tax purposes. I'm pretty sure you can use it as a tax write off, but I would double check that. I live 45-60 minutes away from my new job and my plan is to get a hotel if I ever need to. I'm lucky enough that I'm off since I worked Friday - Sunday this past weekend. Good luck!

I live in upstate NY - not getting hit by the snow this time, but I live an hour away from work as well and I also have it in the budget to get a hotel if I get snowed in. I think that may be the answer for OP - yes, you won't make any money that day but you get to keep your job and have your privacy! :)

Wow. "Snowmaggedon".

The very best to you all!

Several years ago, during Nemo, nurses that I knew working that weekend chipped in for a hotel within walking distance from the hospital. They split the cost of the room and the day shift slept there at night while the night shift slept there during the day. When it snows and you're an essential employee, you're expected to figure it out.

It sucks, I know.

I worked what was actually dubbed "Snowmaggedon" in February 2010. I came to work Friday evening and didn't get home until Monday morning. I stayed at the hospital. It was awful. I barely slept.

Then...I stayed at the Days Inn Tuesday night through Friday morning because we got ANOTHER FREAKING BLIZZARD.

I feel for you.

Have you checked Airbnb? It might be slightly cheaper than a hotel.

I was in it. LI. I posted pics on the other snow thread.

I saw my patients and then got stuck in a snow bank. It's getting worse as the day goes on.

Be safe, take it slow. If the road isn't plowed don't do it. Trust me.

I suppose I'm fortunate to live in Texas, where the population freaks out if one inch of snow accumulates.

Anyhow, management paid for a taxi driver to transport people to and from my workplace last year. They also arranged for certain people to stay in hotel rooms all on the company's dime, all for an inch of snow and ice.

This. I had to walk a half mile in waste deep snow after getting stuck today. I never made it home.

I drove home in it last night. It hit several hours earlier and harder than predicted. My hospital is now getting hit with 3 feet of snow. A coworker texted me and is stuck on the side of the road. My hospital told us there would be cots in strict quiet zone and places to shower. Nice to know if this ever happens again when I'm actually scheduled to work.
