Seasonal flu shot clinics

Nurses General Nursing

I am interested on becoming a subcontractor for a company that does On-site Flu Shots at different clinics. It contracts you for about 4 mths. Has anyone here done this type of subcontracting work? Can someone please give me some insite on rather this type of work is good or bad? Did it workout when you did it? I just really need to know how this thing works before I actually sign an Independent Contractor Agreement and put my License on the line. I really want to help with giving the flu shots this season, but I need advise from Allnurses on this determination, please! Thank you in advance for all responses:)

Sincerely,

NurseLil-lea

The independent contractor paperwork is just so they don't have to pay your employment taxes. There are plenty of flu clinic employers who will treat you as an employee (which is what you are) and pay your taxes for you. Find one of them.

Thank you caliotter3 for your response:) I've sent you a PM.

Thank you,

I worked for one the past 2 yrs... they took care of my taxes. There were a few glitches, but that is pretty much par for the course no matter what you do in life. I really enjoyed it, and have resigned for this year.

Some of the clinics did get cancelled, or shortened, but it was due to poor customer response. I really think that a lot of consumers were a bit gunshy this past year since the H1N1 was included, and some just didn't seem to see the urgency in getting vacinated.

PM if you wish, I can tell you more specific info

It's fun and easy. And I you're not really doing something that could put your license on the line. Enjoy!

The you wearingmanyhats and Nurzelady. This company is making the nurse and independent contractor. Which means they do not take out the taxes and the nurse is solely responsible for all the taxes to come out at the end of the year. I just found this information out (Thank you Caliotter3). So I have to keep searching for a company that is going to treat the nurse like and employee being hired and not a independent contractor. I hope I can fine one that is fun like you state Nurzelady.

Thank you,

NurseLil-lea

I also applied and they called about 2 weeks after I applied. Now I am just waiting for them to send me the link for online training. I have been waiting for 1 month.

I guess it differs from state to state. I got a phone interview a day after applied online which was around mid-July.

Oh nooo.. my post has been removed!

Thank you thank you kerriew, ajsmom, and NurseLil-Lea! :yeah:

I see. I see. I was starting to worry that they aren't considering me anymore since it has been quite a while and I haven't heard from them. I'd really want to score an interview with them since it's been hard on my part looking for an RN position at hospitals. I'm a foreign grad nurse - a new grad too with zero paid experience. It's been about 3 months since I passed the NCLEX and I've been sending my resume out everywhere but no calls yet. :crying2: It gets frustrating over time.

Thanks again for the replies guys! I hope they give me a call soon!

God bless us!

I've done flu shots for 2 companies. The first one hired me as an independent contractor, and treated me very badly. The second hired me as an employee, and treated me much, much better.

How can I know which is contractor or employee?
