Between watching TV this morning and this whole Dr. Oz thing
http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/209611-dr-oz-gets-tough-treatment-on-weight-loss-claims
And my non-medical FB friends trying to convince me that Dr Mercola can cure my son's Type 1 diabetes or that ADHD doesn't exist and that the outbreak of measles is not due to the anti-vaccine movement
It is so frustrating. When I gently try to explain that these claims are not true, they think I am part of this huge conspiracy of the medical profession and big pharma.
So frustrating.
Rant over, thanks for listening

I've ranted very similar rants SO many times. I'm not against CAM, but when people continually make absurd claims like this it makes to hats to listen to anything

This drives me nuts. I can't even talk to one of my sisters because she thinks everything I do at work is evil.

another one of my favorites--when talking about my experience on the stem cell transplant unit and having my grandparents ask me how I'm ethically okay with all the stem cells coming from aborted fetuses...

I had to start watching that show for awhile because my mother-in-law was constantly coming to me with claims from the show. Same goes for my weight loss forum. Aaarg!! Yes, the man will endorse anything that pays him! NO, this does not guarantee safety or efficacy!

I'm sure he's a great cardiologist. That being said, the five seconds I saw of his show once happened to be about some miracle super food....the sensationalism and fear mongering is outrageous. And don't even get me started on Mercola. Reminds me of the children's story "Chicken Little" with all of his nonsense.

I just can't watch him. I truly think that he has no place on TV, as well as that show "The Doctors".

Yes! There is a conspiracy! Didn't anyone tell you? We all meet at midnight in the secret war room in the hospital basement...
Seriously, though, I hear you. It's terribly frustrating when you work so hard to help patients, using treatments that you know work, only to have everything you do dismissed out of hand by some ignoramus.

It's so frustrating when I'm trying to do heart failure education to a medical conspiracy theorist. Invariably it's a patient with 4+ pitting weeping edema and rehospitalizations for heart failure, and yet they refuse meds, dietary restrictions, and teaching....because what they're doing at home is working so well!!!
