I am currently precepting and would like to give my RN preceptor a thank you gift. I don't know much of her personal life and what she likes. What would be an appropriate gift.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Gift card to local convenience store like Wawa, Turkey Hill or QuickChek that has coffee, sandwiches, gas, groceries.

Heartfelt handwritten thank you letter

Card, box of chocolates and a nice plant. Get a card and a box of chocolates for the unit too.

Something thoughtful but inexpensive . You are a broke nursing student, your preceptor gainfully employed and established in her career. I vote for chocolate truffles and a homemade, heartfelt card.

Your preceptor is doing her job. Giving ANY gift is inappropriate and not professional.

Specializes in Hospital medicine; NP precepting; staff education.

As a preceptor I've received a small potted plant, a cute little chef bear figurine, cards, a coffee mug from my fandom, and as part of the pilot mentoring program I got a year membership to the ENA. It was never expected, always appreciated.

I really have precepted a lot, it appears, now that I think about it. wow.

I love written gratitude and praise, definitely lifts my spirits. A card can go a long way in showing appreciation if you personalize it. Include some funny, inspiring and teachable experiences. I would love something like that.

And at my job, they are being compensated with a small-but-increase-just-the-same in pay per hour.

Give her the same thing you gave your nursing instructors.

A nice badge reel or stethoscope button from Etsy. They can be personalized, and around $6.00.

It's done all the time where I work. It's not unprofessional at all. It's gracious and makes people feel good and appreciated.

I traditionally give my nurse manager a bottle of my home made hard cider at Christmas. She is just doing her job. You're saying this is unprofessional?

I noticed that my preceptor drank coffee everyday, so I gave her a Starbuck's gift card. I also noticed the foods she likes to eat and plan to give those to her on our last day...a little basket of her favorite things.
