Open mouth, insert foot

Hello my fellow batlings and COBs.

So, there has been many times this week that I had to bite my tongue and prevent myself from opening my mouth and inserting my foot.

In order to prevent myself from doing this, I sometimes type/write out what I want to say, and delete it/shred it and throw it away. Then I feel like I said it...but I didn't.

Most of the time I speak my mind, but there are some things I know just shouldn't be said or that it might be a good idea to keep it to myself.

So, how do you keep from putting that foot in your mouth?

I don't.

I've had to do it a couple times on AN. Actually, right before this thread. Which prompted this thread.

I have had to work on it over the years because I have not stayed at the same job thru my career. Being the new person at times, I have to stifle it...COB or not. haha

I don't get that angry here.

I've done the write it and throw it away (actually, I burned it) letter exercise with a family member and it helped a lot.

I did the same thing, only I burned the letter with the one my Mother wrote to me so I wouldn't keep going back to reread her letter.

Some families are not the Cleavers, I used to say Huxtables, but.....

I have pulled my foot out of my mouth more times than I can or want to count, but aging seems to be my friend. I've learned to pick my battles and not to sweat the dumb stuff. There is a proverb in the Bible that says something about a fool who keeps quiet is thought wise.

LOL...I do the same thing as you.

LOL! Me, neither.

One of the fun parts of ADHD is being just as surprised as everyone else at what comes out of my mouth (or through my fingers).

Don't you hate when you send a text and you are trying to grab it back? Wait...come back!

I'm not ADHD. I just have a very weak filter.

I've typed out entire responses and then while proofreading, thought better of it and just deleted them. I've deleted posts. And I've bit my tongue hard enough to make it bleed.

Smiling. Always smiling.
