Nurses General Nursing

I entered "nursing school" on youtube and came across a few videos of nursing students practicing Iv's and injections on one another.I had no idea this was done in nursing school! What if a student makes a mistake and you get injured? Ok im being negative..But what if?? Are the students skillfull enough to practice on one another so early into the program??

In our class we did NG tubes, sub-q, IM, and intradermal injections, IV's, and we even got to lance someone's boil. Our instructor also let us practice foley's on her, and we got to practice enema's on each other too.

No IV sticks at my school, but we did have to do breast exams on each other. And no it didn't matter if your partner was a guy. That's worse than getting stuck in my opinion!

Okay...there is no way I'm letting them do enemas on me. :chair:

If I were to go to school the only one I would be uncomfortable with would be the IV (i know I am weird). This is due to the fact that I have VERY bad veins and quite often even seasoned nurses have trouble getting a line started on me.

We did bed baths-- under the sheets and you were very aware of keeping your partner well covered !! e also did sc and IM's, no IV starts or phlebotomy until you were a GN, I let the new girls practice on me. We didn't do NG's or foley's- thank god, that's a little much IMHO

My school made us practive on eachother and the instructors with everything but complete bed baths and foleys/ng tubes. My first time doing an IV I had to stick the director of the program. I'm so glad I got it on the first shot!!!! :uhoh3:

*rubs nose* I dropped an NG on my best friend... she dropped one on me. This was strictly voluntary, and in fact the whole class had to sign a waiver to allow inter-classmate procedure practise.

Practised by others on me or vice-versa:

Fingerstick glucose checks, sub-Q injections, intradermal injections, IM injections, NG tubes, head-toe assessments, vital signs, all basic nursing care.

Essentially, if you've signed the waiver and are willing, you are fair game for anything that does not involve removal of clothing.

very good friend you have there!!!

R u serious... I have no problem with them practicing injections or IV on me but I will not get undressed let alone an enema in Nursing School. NO WAY.

We practiced on each other (2 years ago). It isn't really that bad. I think it helps develop a sense of sympathy for what you're about to do to patients!

we could practice IVs and injections as long as faculty were present for supervision. all the other stuff was for the dummies. foleys and enemas are bad enough on random people.

Having experienced it your self, um ya it would.

Where I am its basically a "no go", with that said, they say if we're happy to stab each other with SC and IM injections of saline that's fine, but we have to both agree to it. Mind you, the lecturers are rather anti it and won't let us do it in class. If people want to come into the practice suites out of class hours and stab each other with needles the lecturers have acknowledged they can't stop it.

To be frank, I wouldn't let anyone practice on me.
