  1. I'd call HR at some of the hospitals and ask specifically what areas they hire new grads and go from there. I've found it to be much easier to get asked in for an interview if I spoke with someone from HR and not just waited for them to call me. Good luck!
  2. Thanks everyone for the posts. I found out that for my senior leadership course this last quarter I got into the NICU!! So I'm super excited about that and hopefully that could open some doors :) Thanks again
  3. Hey everyone! I'm a senior graduating in June and I really want to work in the NICU! Unfortunately, no NICU's in my area are hiring So my question is this...which of the following options would help prepare me the best for working in the NICU one day? Option 1:A new grad internship program in adult critical care. This is a 20 week program with both classes and rotations through adult critical care areas. Option 2: A job in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Children's Hospital in my city. Option 3: A job in surgery. This is another interest of mine so I decided to apply when I heard that no NICU's were hiring. Any advice would be great! Thanks.
  4. I don't see why you can't throw your own party....everyone around here throws one for high school graduation. You worked hard so CELEBRATE!!! I'm almost there too (June) so I know how excited you are!
  5. Next quarter will be my Senior Leadership course and I have a choice between adults and peds. I'm more interested in Peds (mainly NICU) but I know that the NCLEX is based on adults so I'm wondering if that wouldn't be more beneficial to me to just do the adults in order to prepare for taking the NCLEX. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  6. Congrats!! I can't wait until I can say the same! Six more months...
  7. I graduate in June of this year and am looking at two different new grad programs. I was advised to apply to one ASAP, as the positions fill up quickly, and I was told that I won't need to apply to the second one until April or May. I'm not sure how this would work because the interviews would obviously be months apart and I would have to either accept or decline the first job without having even applied at the other one. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions??? Thanks!
  8. This popped up on my road runner home page...that it was fitting for the thread. Being a nurse is considered one of the 10 "sexiest" jobs. http://www.careerbuilder.com/JobSeeker/careerbytes/CBArticle.aspx?articleID=773&lr=cbtwcrr&siteid=cbtwcrr62&cbRecursionCnt=1&cbsid=1e386b076889474aaf4cc2bd5e9fa7e6-252454854-KA-5
  9. No IV sticks at my school, but we did have to do breast exams on each other. And no it didn't matter if your partner was a guy. That's worse than getting stuck in my opinion!
  10. I've seen this first-hand on the unit that I work on as a tech. There's so much gossiping, drama, and backstabbing that it feels like high school. There was one nurse that clearly no one liked and some of the other nurses made a point to let her know. It got so bad on days that she switched to nights. Apparently it wasn't any better there and she ended up quitting. It was really sad in my opinion because she told me she liked her job but people were so mean to her. One thing I will come away with from this job is to never participate in this childish behavior when I graduate from nursing school because I've seen how miserable it can make a person.
  11. PCT at a central ohio hospital $10.91 with $1.55 shift diff. no experience
  12. Hey Everybody. I'm new to the site and I love it! So much great information. I wanted to get some opinions of what people thought of new grad programs (internship,residency,fellowship-whatever they may be called). Do you think it's beneficial to do a program like this? If you've done one what do you think are the advantages? Or disadvantages? Thanks!
