  1. I'm starting in the ICU and the ratio is 1:2. But the norm throughtout the hospital is 1:5-6. Whoever said they had 13-15 patients, I would be terrified!!!
  2. I just graduated last week and will be starting in the ICU soon!! I was so excited to be hired directly into the ICU, since so many people told me they wouldn't hire GN's. I also looked into peds and the ER, but neither of those hire GN's in my area. I could not see myself doing LTC or regular med-surg. Congratulations to all my fellow new grads!!:biggringi
  3. What exactly does a CNA do on a med/surge floor? I know they do vitals, bathing, etc. What else are they responsible for? And what is the difference between a CNA and a Patient Care Tech, other than being certified? Thanks :)
  4. I got the job :) It's at a children's hospital and I will start at $10.50 plus night differential. Better than I thought from what I heard here! I was worried since I have not even started clinicals yet and I am not certified, but it all worked out! Thanks for all your replies.
  5. Bush all the way here in Florida!!
  6. I am a nursing student and I have just been offered two jobs as a PCT. One is at a children's hospital (and I was really hoping to work in peds), but it is 7pm to 7am two days a week and 3-11 one day a week. The other is in cardio, and 7am to 7pm. This is the shift I want, but I'm not so interested in cardio. It would be cool to learn, but I really love peds. What should I do? How hard is it to adjust? I have worked 8-5 for years. I have worked 3-11 before and I liked that, I am not a morning person. But I am nervous about working overnight.
  7. What state are you in? That seems pretty good compared to everyone else. CNA's definitely don't get paid enough
  8. I have a couple interviews for PCT positions, but I have no idea what to expect as a salary. I am a student nurse in NE FL. Please tell me where you live, your experience, and how much you make. I know I will probably have to take a pay cut, but to be doing what I am going to school for will be worth it, I think. Thanks for you help!

  11. What can I expect realistically when I graduate? I have heard a huge range from starting at $15/hour to starting at over $30.
  12. I am waiting on my acceptance letter from FCCJ to start clinicals in January. I wasn't nervous until I read some of these posts! Should I be nervous? I have taken all my pre-reqs and have a 3.44 GPA and I did very well on my NAT, around 97th percentile. I am so excited to start I can't think about anything else! I should have been almost done, but I just had a baby so I obviously took some time off :) Does anyone know of any good open positions at any of our hospitals? I want to get out of my office job and start doing something medical, but I don't have any experience except school Wow, sorry for the looong post!
  13. I will be starting my clinicals in January. I want to get out of my office job and into a hospital now. Is there anything I can do? Everything I have seen says after my first semester or experience and certification required. Where is a good place to start? I am willing to take a pay cut to move into the medical field, but it can't be like $8 hour or anything. Does anyone have any advice? Where did you start out??
