A few nights ago, at around 0230, an otherwise alert and oriented little old lady beacme confused, combative, and was screaming at the top of her lungs. This was not my patient, but as i rushed into the room to assist the other RN's in physically holding her, I was kicked in the face. It wasn't a serious blow, since I pulled back - But still there was contact. Ahhh, the occupational hazards of Nursing!

Just a vent....needed to get that off my chest.

I'm so sorry that happened to you! I hope you weren't injured! :crying2: I had a confused old lady grab my breast when I was volunteering in the ER..... and then she pinched my cheek a few minutes later :D At least she didn't kick me though....

Ouch! try having a confused little old lady no bigger than a minute grab the tender part of your upper arm on the underside and giving you a hard twisting pinch and not letting go!!!!! I had a bruise for weeks.

Wow those little old ladies are dangerous. :D

i can recall a little old lady who dug her fingernails into my forearm, drawing blood from five little crescents. Her son stood by and watched as i struggled to get her hands off of me and all he said was "mom used to be a manacurist." Thanks... guess i am glad she wasn't a dentist or i'd probably have been bit by her...

I have been hit and recieved a bloody nose, a black eye, and hit in the jaw so hard that I saw stars. One time I was helping to transfer a little old lady into a wheelchair and she just turned her head and bit down on my upper arm. Someone had to pry the woman's teeth off of me. My lord nothing hurt as bad as that. I honestly thought that a chunk of my arm was going to be hanging out of the woman's mouth when my co-worker finally got her off of me. Needless to say after that I learned to be very careful around the little old ladies.

I've been kicked in the head too - wound up with bent glasses and a cut on my face from it too. I can sympathize.

I've had that happen a couple of times and wonder if I worked out with the weights a bit more there would be less flab for them to grab onto. :chuckle

Yikes for her and you!! Geez I'd be thinking delerium. Scary. Glad you weren't hurt. It's hard when that stuff comes out of nowhere. It's almost better when you go in a room expected it, are prepared and have a different mindset.

It's like I say I might rather have a patient who is verbalizing his anger --I know he's mad, what he's thinking and there is not such a suprise. The quiet ones that you can tell are thinking but won't talk. It's a mystery. You don't know what to expect. That's worse!!!

Little old men are dangerous too! I had one grab a handful on my hair then had ahold of hands that i tried to pull his hand off with..call light had fallen down to floor and i couldnt reach it. luckily pt's roomate was not demented and pressed his call light for me..thankfully a quick responded CNA came in and said "do you need help?" and help me free myself. My head hurt for about 3 days after that one! :bluecry1:

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one to get whooped by a little old lady. :D
