Nothing like a good kick in the face

A few nights ago, at around 0230, an otherwise alert and oriented little old lady beacme confused, combative, and was screaming at the top of her lungs. This was not my patient, but as i rushed into the room to assist the other RN's in physically holding her, I was kicked in the face. It wasn't a serious blow, since I pulled back - But still there was contact. Ahhh, the occupational hazards of Nursing!

Just a vent....needed to get that off my chest.

I love this post! So funny, thanks for sharing!

We had a little old man come in with a #NOF. He was so pleasant until it became time for PAC or pad change. At that time he would become a little nasty. Even when drugged enough to put the whole staff to sleep it took 5 of us to change him or conduct the PAC. One night we had a tiny nurse so she was given the broken leg to control....she ended up across the room with one kick. But then she is a "Poo Magnet".

We found out later that he was British Para back in the day and secretly agreed that someone in his NH pushed him over deliberately so someone else could deal with him.

About 3 weeks ago, I got kicked in the throat while I and another nurse were wrestling with a pt's arms. Man, I didn't think he could kick that far - I was near the head of the bed. Eventually it took 3 male security guards and 4 female nurses to get him into 4 point leathers. Normal restraints and a posey vest were just not good enough. I had to jump out of the foray early because my hand was also bleeding from an injury.

That was my first experience with leather restraints in a non-psych pt! I hope it is the last.:wink2:
