New Grad Job Positions Anywhere in America

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi you guys! I graduated in May from the Bay Area. I've passed my NCLEX and have been desperately looking for a job. There are barely any opportunities for new grads in the Bay Area and all through out California since we have no experience. I am willing to move to a different state or area in California for a job- to get that 1 year hospital experience that most jobs want. Please post here if you are aware of any hospitals willing to hire new graduate nurses in America. It will be greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU ALL!

good luck in your search!

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

In the DC area my hospital hired quite a few new grads but it was wrapped up a few months ago before they graduated so they could start as graduate nurses. Good luck.

I've noticed that in Texas many of the smaller rural or specialty hospitals are willing to hire new grads simply because they usually have a more relaxed culture and will take the time to train a new nurse. Get out a map of Texas and start searching under "name of the town" hospitals.

For some reason new grads have a tough time - at first. I have a friend who went from LPN to RN and it took a year to get a hospital job. She just kept doing her LTC job until it finally came through. I believe it has to do with the hospital's ability to dedicate the time to orient new nurses. They can only handle so many at a time. Be diligent and patient. Also, places with nursing shortages might be more inclined to hire a new grad. I tend to think New Orleans, NYC, etc. may have shortages. I'm in Delaware and there isn't a huge shortage here. Also, start with agency work to get the experience. Once you have that, you will be more hirable. Good luck!

Lots of places in upstate NY are hiring. In September we have over fifty new grads going through orientation at the hospital where I work. Best of luck to you!

Can't speak to New Orleans, but NYC definitely doesn't have any sort of shortage. Also, agency work isn't a good place for a new grad to start. It's not just about time worked, it's about a coherent, cohesive orientation that will help a new grad transition from student to safe practitioner. Agencies expect to be able to dump you on a floor and say "go," which is why most of them don't hire new grads in the first place.

I'd also look at some of the more rural areas where the "big city folk" don't want to live. You might not like it long term but putting a year or two under your belt in a smaller hospital will prepair you for lots to come.

Good luck

OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City (Level 1 trauma center) has jobs posted right now that don't have 1 year exp. as a listed requirement. I know they hire a bunch of new grads each year.
