Look in El Paso. Hospitals are hiring GN's.
  2. What I found disturbing is that the video is over several days. After seeing what happened on day one the family continued to let the caregiver work with their grandmother and the abuse seemed to increase. Kudos to the family for having the gut fee...
  3. hiv exposure?

I don't know how to answer this without sounding mean. If you are giving meds through a heplocked IV you must be a nurse and you don't know the answer to your question?
  4. What's with the drug shortages?

We've experienced it with Heparin 100 units/1ml vials. I work on an oncology floor and almost every patient has a PICC or PAC. Yesterday, we had to dig through every crevise in our drug carts to see if we could pull together enough heparin units t...
  5. New Grad Job Positions Anywhere in America

El Paso - hiring. Spanish preferred but not required.
  6. When they said there wasn't time to pee or to eat lunch, they weren't exagerating!
  7. signing bonus

I was a new GN one year ago. The hospital I chose to work at offered a $4000 sign-on that was broken down into quarterly payments (you would get all $4000 after working one year) OR they offered $400 per month towards student loan. I chose the stu...
  8. Quirky Habits?

Mine is I have to have Burt's Bee's chapstick with me at all times. I have three extra tubes at work - (just in case) plus a tube in bag on my medcart plus the tube in my pocket. Ohhh don't get me started on how many I have hidden around my house....

Try your foundations textbook. Mine had a nicely arranged table that made it easy to learn and study.
  10. How can I manage my anxiety on the floor?

I am a fairly new nurse and often felt times of anxiety especially when several different things needed to be done at the same time. I sought out seasoned nurses who I felt comfortable with and explained everything that needed to be done and asked f...
  11. Best scrubs for pear shaped women?

I have the same problem and found that the Koi "Lindsey" scrubs seem to fit me best. They have a combo elastic/drawstring waist. They are pricey but well worth it. Once I found the Koi bottoms I have not even tried any other scrub bottoms on.
  12. New Grad Nurse Positions in El Paso

Spanish is always helpful but it's not required. I do not know Spanish but am learning as I go along. I've found that most patients do speak a little English and with my little bit of Spanish we are able to communicate. If needed there are always ...
  13. New Grad Nurse Positions in El Paso

You are lucky that El Paso could be in your future. It's one of the few places where hospitals are hiring new grads for hospital jobs. Everything I've heard is Beaumont is hard to actually get into - everything is done by internet and there doesn't...
  14. Things that leave you stunned.

This happened while I was a student working with a school nurse, a 5th grader came to the nurse complaining that her eyes were bothering her. The student asked if we had any fluid she could place her contacts in. We were freaking out - a 5th grader w...
  15. STILL don't have a job?? Vent here!

Keep your mind open for relocation. I live in El Paso and graduated in May, as far as I know every student who applied for a job, got one. Our hospitals here are hiring GN's and starting us in the orientation program before we pass the Nclex. They...
