My NEW Job!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I posted this in another forum, but thought I'd let you all know. I've been offered a position at a rural hospital in Illinois, and I'M TAKING it! Already gave my notice to current boss, and telephonically informed the hospital that offered the position. Hopefully, I'll start my new position on April 1st or thereabouts.

MAJOR pay raise, and average of 40 hour weeks (or less). I'll be the chief CRNA at the hospital, and there will be no anesthesiologists. I will not be part of the nursing staff, but will be considered to be part of the medical staff, with all the responsibilties and perks that come with that. I'll have much greater input to treatment of patients outside of the OR, and will get to do some OB anesthesia again.

I went to the hospital last weekend for a visit and interview, and I loved the place. Small town (about 5000), good staff and good hospital. I was wined and dined all weekend, introduced to a number of docs and nurses. Finally, no more 70 - 80 hour work weeks, no more routine cases scheduled at 8 pm. I get to actually spend some time with my family!

AND we may have already found a house. Its a 120 year old Victorian with four bedrooms and an office that has been refurbished completely over the last five years. They are probably asking way too much for it, but that's what negotiation is for.

Good News! Congrats and Good Luck!

The job is in Fairfield Il, about 40 miles east of Mt Vernon. Just off I 64 (I think). Like I said, small town, population 5000. It has a very typical small town Main Street, with shops and the like. Also has a Wal Mart, but not the mega Wal Mart that takes up enough land for a moderately sized farm.

The baby is due about March 6, and so far all is well. We have so many things to be thankful for.

Good news! With all the "down time" coming you can use it for baby cuddling instead...maybe even take up a hobby again. REcharge those engines.... soon you'll be at 2000 posts!

My mom was from Fairfield. I grew up in McLeansboro. It's a nice area. So. Illinois is close to lots of stuff- being the tri-state area and all. I hope you enjoy it there. I did.

Congrats Kevin, I am very happy for you and your family. Sounds like an ideal job.

Congrats Kevin..sounds like a great move for you! Best wishes to you and your family!!

Good for you, Kevin. Happy for you that you'll be able to get away from those back-breaking work weeks and have more time to spend with your family. :)

Congratulations and congratulations.

I love small town mid-America. I'd like to be living in the Midwest right now. Maybe someday.
