MEN, or How I came to break my favorite unbrella

For over a week I have been noticing that my husband was not himself. I asked him repeatedly if he was not feeling well. He emphatically denied illness and became quite brusque when I pressed my quieries. Finally over the weekend I started to feel ill and made appointment with the doctor for both of us. I literally had to drag him to the office screaming and kicking. He accused me of trying infect him with my hypochondria and was not pleased that I had made the appointment with out his permission. The doctor found that he has a horrendous case of strep throat and sinisitus. I have it also but I am not nearly as ill. I drove us home with only my left hand on the wheel. I used my right to beat my husband over the head with my favorite umbrella.

I am ROTFL!!! Trying to get my boyfriend to the doc for a regular physical was a herculean task! He finally got insurance, but said that he didn't know where his primary doc was located and that it was inconvenient. I took his card from him, called as his fiancee and got the doc changed. When my birthday rolled around and he asked what I wanted, I told him I wanted him to go to the doc. I even offered to pay his first copay for him!!!! He finally went and even turned his head and coughed (no sympathy from me on that one!)... Sigh. But I echo your sentiment - MEN!!!

Now that he's starting to feel better tell him he owes you

1. A new unbrella - since you beat him over the head with your old one.

2. Dinner - Since now he's made you sick and he's feeling better.

I just got dragged a month ago to see one too, by who else you know who, after more than 15 years of disregard for a need to see one.

I have to say we men can drop dead one day without any clue, just because we feel we can handle the little aches and pains we get every now and then. We don't want to look like whiners and we often stand by the attitude "it's a waste of time I got better things to do." Or maybe we are just selfish and notwithstanding what the other members of the family will go through if we get worse.

So yeah, yeah, yeah! Much do I want to shut you all up...you are all RIGHT!

I bet when you were striking your hubby with that umbrella he just raised his arm and said "Alright, alright... don't push it!" But I bet ya he was pondering "Gosh, I guess I can't do without you." That's what I felt for my wife. Afterall, she did give me a new lease in life! I had a "silent tumor" removed safely and successfully.

I just act macho but I do see women as effective decision-makers most of the time! ;)

It is a statistical fact that married men live longer than single men.

This thread sounds familiar.

Oh, and Oramar, you are correct about married men living longer. But I believe I read that divorced/widowed women live longer than their married counterparts. (as for me, I enjoy umbrella bashing my sweetheart from time to time...);)

Ladies,

My wife is outside her comfort zone with anything but acetamiophen. I tried to get her to take an herbal remedy that I suggested for menopause symptoms, but she wouldn't even consider it. I explained the pysiological and long term effects of her diminishing estrogen supply. Nothing doing. Symptoms got to the point of affecting her in a mental capacity, and me for that matter, and she finnaly took it and got complete relief in a day. She has not missed a dose since.:D

I don't like to go to the doctor. It feels shameful. Like I'm weak or something. I went just recently, at my wifes insistance, to get some growths looked at. I thought they were sebbaceous cysts and didn't want to give someone a fifteen dollar co-pay to pop some glorified zits on my back until they were painful or something to justify it.

Of course my routine BP was elevated and now I've got to spend time to get my lipids checked and lower my salt intake and all that crap.

They were sebbaceous cysts and I have to make another damm appointment to get them excised properly. She popped one of them because it was giving me pain and gave me a script for a prophylactic antibiotic per protocol.............did I take them? Did I get the lab done?......Hell no, walk it off Nancyboy! I've got to work for a living. I'll just simply pay attention to what I eat and get some excercise. Geeze.

I was felling fine before I went to the doctor, and now I'm just a sickly thing

Yes, I get sick of my husband telling me he's "fine" when his M.S. flares and he has a relapse (like he's doing now). I made him GO to the neurologist, he got started on oral prednisone, THEN his vision got worse and his balance got worse and he says "I don't think it's working this time"! SO CALL THE D@#* DOCTOR AND LET HIM KNOW!!!!!!! He finally did and they put him on IV solumedrol 1GM a day x 3 days. AND he expects to be perfectly fine after that ---even though it has never worked like that before! He's back on the PO prednisone and tapering off. Boy, does he get grouchy at the world tapering off steriods! And it's all my fault!
