Since there seems to be a large amount of discussion on the subject, I would like to offer up a little poll to get a perspective from the Allnurses.com New graduate RN/LPN on thier current job search.

Tait

I have been searching since January 2009.

Graduated in May.

Passed Nclex in June.

Specializes in Public Health, School, Camp.

I started job searching in Feb. I finally gave up and went the AmeriCorps route for the next year. Not nursing, but emergency service corps. Hopefully it will help in some way...

It was frustrating and wreaking havoc on my life getting rejected over and over again.

Started in May when I graduated.....:bluecry1:

Specializes in pediatrics.

graduated in dec 2008....been looking....moved....hired with home health in july but still looking for hospital job

I graduated in May and passed the NCLEX a few weeks later. I've been job hunting since March and have only had one interview. It's very frustrating and hard to keep the faith.

Specializes in LTC.

LVN here. Graduated Dec 08/HESI exit exam in Jan 09. Finally received my license at the end of May. Still no job and I am currently working as a caregiver. May have to file BK if I don't get something quickly. I had one interview at an allergy clinic, one at a LTC facility, and one interview at an ALF that I wasn't terribly interested in but would have taken anyway.

Specializes in Psych..

I graduated in May 2009, but I started actively applying in March. I had an interview with a psych facility in April, and they liked me and told me to call back after I took the NCLEX. I just finished my first week of orientation.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

Graduated in May but started a few months before hand. Passed NCLEX in July. Started looking and applying for even more then. And I mean everything pretty much!...have applied to about 500 jobs now...and have only heard from less than 10 I think. No job yet...still trying!

I have had fairly good luck. Have one degree in Broadcasting and now my RN degree(graduated in May 09). I have been really actively searching since May. But, I put the 'feelers' out back in DECEMBER of 2008.

I passed NCLEX in July and had a job in two weeks! The next job offer came two weeks later (RN Manager job-- told I got it because of first degree)... and today just got another offer at a hospital.

Pretty good luck! :p

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

Great poll idea and thankfully the results so far aren't nearly as dismal as many threads here seem to indicate. In the Balt./Washington DC area they are still hiring new grads. Good luck everyone.

Well so far about 71% are still unemployed. Need more responses!
