Good or bad omen?

During a brief phone conversation for a position at a specialty clinic I spoke with the OM. She says, "I'm the office manager and his wife" referring to the practice owning MD.

Anybody work in a situation where "the wife" was somewhat your boss?

common situation. it's a job.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho, ASC.

Agreed, it's common.

However, I would caution "Run, Forrest, run."

Yes I have and it was a NIGHTMARE!! When they argue it is ridiculous and will always be a source of conflict in one manner or another. Think about this before you take this job, mark my words you will end up in the middle of a power struggle with them somehow!

Yeah, hmmmmm. She said she probably won't be there, and then said she might be there. She said I'd be interviewing wth the doc. Would've been good to have the interview within office hours so I could try to catch a vibe. No other RNs, it will just be me and them. They are replacing the person they used to have. I sure wish I could chat with the soon to be or already previous RN. They say she's leaving/left due to the commute.

Specializes in CVICU, Obs/Gyn, Derm, NICU.

Yes - joint owners so joint bosses.

I have had both favourable and unfavourable experiences with this setup.

When one complements the other .... can create a good environment

I should add that there are a few MDs with this group that I'm gonna have to wrangle by my lonesome.

Maybe not?

Wondering if the wife is a nurse?

Looked her up on the BON, unless she is under another name, no.

Never mind ... you might have an allie with one of the docs

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

I have worked in MD offices since the age of 19. I have a firm rule that I will NEVER work for an office where the MD and OM are married. Never ever ever EVER again. it is bad bad news.

Specializes in med-surg, psych, ER, school nurse-CRNP.

Been there, done it, never again. It's just a recipe for disaster.
