How many of you were CNA's before you went into nursing?

  1. Good morning...I am considering taking CNA courses in June, and I was wondering how many nurses on this board started out as CNA's before becoming a nurse?

    Thanks,

I was a CNA in a med/surg ICU while going to school. DEFINITELY!! work as a CNA, it is such valuable experience. It will help you through school--you can ask nurses questions, see procedures, equipment, get comfortable around patients, plus maybe find a place with tuition reimbursement. Good luck to you!

Wow. I am sooooooooo confused! LOL. I thought you asked if we were CNAs before nursing and then I saw percentages. ????

Anyway, I was a nurses aide while in nursing school for about 8 months.

I was a CNA for three years before I became an LPN, and was an LPN for seven years before becoming an RN.

I can't vote on your poll, though. It doesn't make sense. Maybe you could have asked "Were you a CNA before you became a nurse?"

You could have given the choice of answering either "yes" or "no".

I mean, since I was a CNA prior to becoming a nurse- should I choose 75%?
    lol.

I was a CNA before I became an LPN, now I'm an RN. I've always felt that if you were interested in nursing, you should work as a CNA. If you don't like being a CNA, chances are you won't like being a nurse. Just my two cents.

I know, I know. There goes my dreams of becoming a professional pollster. darn it!! I am really encouraged by the replies though, despite my crappy polling technique. I'm just giddy that I finally get a chance to start working on my dream of starting a career in the health care field. Thanks again everyone...

I was a nursing student first, then started in float as a CNA II after my first semester. I think it really makes me appreciate things more.
