If I get one more email or anyone from management continually talking about going green, carbon footprint, save the earth, blah blah blah - I AM GOING TO SCREAM!!!!

All I want to do at the start of a shift is print up my list of patients and recieve report. Can't do that now...its online only. Seeing as I go room to room without the computer and i have not memorized the patients names, what use is that for introductions and reference?

Go Green, Climate Change, Green this, Green that

Let me tell you something: The only green i care about has pictures of dead presidents on it

This is somewhat related but not really : The OBSESSION with organic food/trader joes.

Am I the only person who sees this as insanity? Its a recession, nobody can afford the basics, gas prices rise by the hour and people shop for Organic food because its "healthier"

Another news flash: Your choice $4.00 for a gallon of milk or $7 for a gallon of milk? Organic veggies all came from the same place as non-organic veggies.....in the earth with cow poop!

Going "Green" is business speak for cutting cost.

Going "Green" is business speak for cutting cost.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

It's a way of saving a buck by taking away your needs (in order to get your job done) in a way they (think) makes them look noble.

It's revolting.

I don't think anyone is fooled by it.

I do understand your rant. Doing the "right" thing for the earth is a luxury that many of us can't afford. And it can be very annoying to deal with people who are so lacking in self awareness that they just don't get that it's really a huge deal for a lot of us who can't spend $500 for a month of earth friendly groceries and whatnot.

What burns me is these food drives for the poor where you end up with three cans of $5 organic kidney beans, when someone could have just spent that money and donated 10 cans. Ergh.

But I also agree with the sentiment of the movement and I do whatever I can to cut down on my waste, especially when it comes to paper -- I say that sitting here at a desk that is buckling under the weight of the REDUCED amount of paperwork I have.

I just try to do what I can and try not to be self-righteous and in people's face about it.

Also, I agree with Scott about businesses trying to make a buck on it. Preying on peoples' good intentions is, and always has been, a booming business.

If anything the organic products should be somewhat cheaper because they don't use those costly pesticides to kill/deter the nasty bugs, they usually don't have many workers on the payroll, and the products are often sold locally so transportation costs are lower.

I remember when my bank kept bugging me to get electronic account statements instead of paper. My monthly statements consisted of two pages of black and white while the 2-3 unsolicited credit card applications I received weekly were numerous pages of high gloss print.

I am so sick of this "green" crap too. All of our emails at the hospital I work at have this stupid little footnote at the end: "Please consider the environment before printing this message."

It's so ridiculous!!!!

Do people not realize what a renuable source paper is???!!! My God! Paper comes from trees. The lumber industry creates a lot of jobs and tax revenue. Trees and cut down, replanted, grow, cut down and the cycle repeats itself. I don't get why people can't understand this! PLUS, paper is recycled, which creates another industry for jobs, revenue, etc.

The whole "green movement" is just the continuation of the hippie ideals of the people who are now executives.

Trader Joe's is actually really affordable. We love to shop there because we can get fancy foods and organic foods for cheap. They have really good stir fries, their tartar sauce is SOOOOOO good, and they give you a discount if you bring your own bags.

I know that the economy is lousy...and that organic produce can be expensive. Like anything else, have to try and find a middle ground. The fewer pesticides we put in our bodies, the better-same goes for cleaning products, etc,,,at least around the house. Some "Green" products drive me crazy. The push for the "new" lightbulbs-I swear that they are not as bright as the old ones. Guess we all have to TRY to save the planet...and watch out for our health..

The ironic thing is that those CFL lightbulbs that the green movement is promoting contain mercury which is a toxin. The new light bulbs have to be dumped in a toxic waste facility, and if one breaks in your home you have to follow certain procedures such as opening a window, shutting off ac or heat, donning gloves, mask, and coveralls, and using sticky tape to gather the dry particles. How can that be good for the environment or more importantly people. But hey, think of the money you will save. LOL

You beat me to it with the CFL/mercury comment. Though I guess I'm screwed because my cat knocked over a lamp a couple months ago & the CFL shattered. And you can sure bet I didn't do anything like that to clean it up.

Trader Joe's is cheaper for eggs and milk than the local chain grocery stores in my town. I love Trader Joe's!
