Getting rid of my nursing library at home

I graduated nursing school 2 years ago and the other day I was looking in my closet and started thinking...Man I sure have a lot of Heavy book. Although I still pick them up and read from time to time it's not practical to contine to carry all these books around. Has anyone considered selling/donating all there nursing texts and purchasing the books electronically on an application. I feel it will be so much easier in the long run especially when its time to move again ugh!!! How many books can a tablet hold?

I sold all my nursing books on Amazon and haven't looked back. Why would you want to keep them? I can get all the reference material I need at work

The main problem with all those 'dead tree' books is that they can quickly become outdated & not worth the shelf space they're occupying. As your practice develops, you will figure out whether you need those additional references.

In most instances, it's better to subscribe to professional journals which provide information & CE on newly emerging topics. Most journals also have online access. If you come across an article you want to keep, just save it to a cloud drive. After a while, you will have a reference library that is customized for your own interests. As an educator, I do have to utilize specialty references on a regular basis - but they are all online now & I just pay for access to the updated text whenever the new edition is published.

I would see if they are still being sold for a decent price on Amazon. If so sell those puppies and make some $$$. Everything is available online or at your employer now anyway..

The internet will give you current research on just about everything; as with your nursing books, they are quickly outdated. I know the profs love to tell the students to hold on to the books for research but research results change.

There are a number of charitable organizations that desperately need your old nursing books as texts for use in developing nations. Consider that before you get pennies on the dollar for them, or can't sell them because students here have to get current editions.

If you do donate, you may be able to claim a tax credit if your recipient is considered tax-exempt.

I had a cookbook collection that I needed to thin out desparately. It was an EXTENSIVE donation. My local community college (tax exempt) had a fairly new culinary arts program. I gave them some 157 hardback and 500 soft cover books. Got $635 tax credit. (They should have named a library wing after me!!)
