Have to think about it as a nurse, but when I was a nursing student, most definitely! I picked up so many things here that I was far beyond my classmates in many important matters.

I started reading this site when considering entering nursing school, and have read it ever since.

Really, as a nurse...I'm sure it has helped round me out, but the only thing that has made me a better nurse is getting thrown to the wolves and "sink or swim" (mixed metaphor and wrong tense, haw!).

i havent officially started working yet, but i feel that this forum has answered many questions ive had on my mind, whether or not it was asked by me or by others. i am extremely greatful that i came across it during my preparation for the NCLEX and job search/interview phase.

Allnurses has walked me through some tough patches. Moving from acute care to psych was a real eye opener and a bit traumatic. It took me a while to understand the culture and Allnurses helped provide me with an outside opinion as to what was going on inside the walls. Talking to others who had already done the transition made it easier for me to face the day. In nursing school I was a fan of Virtual Nurse. When they closed, I came here. And I have been at AN under a couple of different names since. This is an integeral part of my being a nurse. Just because I work in psych doesn't mean that I can forget everything else. I read the ER and OB posts, along with the funnies and the psych. If I can help a student or two along the way, I'm happy to oblige.

Thanks for all that you do Brian.

Yes. Others share opinions, medical information, hospital information and schools to continue our education. I visit this site often and enjoy being a participant. Thanks allnurse!!!

Wow, to have this many nurses at your fingertips as a resource, definitely yes! The years of experience, the sources, the tips. I feel empowered and blessed to have this. Nursing can be a stressful, lonely place. Especially in fields that I now work in such as school health and home health. To know that I can get on here and ask a question from a collective knowledge base like this is a true gift. Even if we don't all agree I love knowing you are all out there taking care of business just like me.

I will never forget how allnurses got me thru state boards 3yrs ago!!!! thanks so much to all who gave emotional support, learning tips, for just letting me freak out and vent here!!!

This forum offers a vast wealth of knowledge. I have learned to look at things through many different eyes. This allows me to keep the big picture and not develop tunnel vision. I appreciate this forum and all those who post here....

If this was the only place where I came to learn new clinical skills, then I would have to say "No" AN has not made me a better nurse.

But being a nurse is more then just clinical skills - and it is the rest of the collective knowledge and support that I have garnered here that makes me say "Yes!" AN has made me a better nurse.

No. This site doesn't make me a better nurse. It discourages me from praising my profession as freely as I have in the past. That's how I feel after reading posts here for over a year. I can definitely praise some of the respondents who have replied to threads here and others make me wonder what got them a degree in the first place. Any site that depresses me as much as this site does, well, I don't believe it makes me a better nurse. I keep coming back hoping to leave it with a new outlook. It hasn't happened yet. But cheers! Here's to 2010!

I voted yes, because somebody yelled at me when I said, "The Emperor Has No Clothes." Now I just keep my mouth shut, and apparently that makes me a better nurse.
