Do you shower when you get off work???

I'm just curious if those of you who have nurse-to-patient contact... Do you shower when you get home from work??

I'm kind of a freak when it comes to showering... I have to shower in the morning and then before bed each night... So I know once I start working in the field, I will be showering when I get home anyway, but I'm curious if I wasn't this way to begin with if I would still shower or not...

Just curious...

ALWAYS!! I feel so grimy when I leave work! Shoes come off before I walk through the door and I head straight for the shower.

usually before and after.. i have also been known to shower in the middle of my shift as well...

I always take a full shower when I come home from work and wash my clothes. I just feel dirty if I don't.

I shower in the evening but it has little to do with my work. I have always hated that sticky, daily sweat feeling and I just can't sleep when my skin feels like that. If, for whatever reason, I can't shower before bed then I sponge off with a wet washcloth. On my workdays I always shower after work though.

Yes! And like some others, I also shower at work sometimes, depending on what has happened. Our unit has a shower for us, so that if we get blood or other body fluids on us at work, we can shower and change. Each of us can get an extra set of scrubs from our radiology department or keep an extra set in our lockers. My shoes come off at the door (outside). I don't want to track any of the stuff I walk in into my home if I can help it. But then I loose my shoes before I come in from outside too.

Me too, before and after work. It helps me sleep better by putting on a fresh cotton shirt and a boxer short after showering.

The morning shower is just my ritual to get ready for the day. ;)

I typically take a shower within 1 hour of arriving home from work. My shifts end at 10pm, so I don't want to climb into bed without having had a shower to wash away the day's accumulation of sweat and germs. I simply feel 'cleaner' after a quick shower.

I have a coworker who is a bit more extreme. We all lovingly refer to her as the 'germophobic' because she strips her scrubs off once she steps into her garage, then walks into her house naked because she doesn't want to introduce the germs to her family. She also drives home wearing plastic bags over her work shoes, so as to not contaminate her vehicle.

I'm SO glad to hear this! I was afraid I was going to be viewed as a germaphobe!

My aunt is an RN and works in the ER at a Level I Trauma center and I just found out she doesn't shower every time she comes home... She works the night shift and sees a lot of crazy stuff. It really surprised me that she doesn't shower.

I was worried there for a minute that I might be the odd one in the family...:lol2:

Not so much now that I'm in the ICU with a 1:1 ratio.

When I worked trauma/surgery, I would sometimes strip off my clothes at the door and immediately head for the shower. Not just how I felt, but the SMELLS came home with me!!!
