I personally cannot live without makeup.I feel plain and unkept without makeup. It's apart of me.It makes me feel feminine. Will I be able to continue wearing makeup up on the job?

Satori,

Yes, you can wear makeup in the O.R. Most people only wear eye makeup, if any, b/c the rest ends up in your masks. For that reason, O.R. nurses are often a "homely" looking bunch with awful hair on top of it!(caps) hahahaha!!!

That is why I don't work OR. ;);) Those blue hats are not attractive.

The only time I've gone back is to be the baby nurse for cesareans.

And no one looks at me because they are all busy with mom . . . and I can hightail it out as soon as the baby is stable.

I guess I won't be working in the OR then....that bites! I love surgery too, but I would feel too self-conscious all day. :uhoh21:

I wear makeup to work. I don't really like to give it too much thought and I consider my makeup to be pretty low key. I don't usually wear lipstick but will sometimes do lip gloss. I never do mascara just cause I don't like how it feels. My makeup doesn't sweat off or anything because I use a loose powder foundation. I could never do a liquid foundation. It takes maybe 5 minutes to do.

I finally bought "Bare Minerals" and love it. Foundation on we older women just accentuates our imperfections. ;) I've had makeovers that make me feel like a hooker. :nono:

I don't like lipstick but a colored gloss is good for me. I carry it in my pocket.

We do have one CNA who is quite beautiful - tall, gorgeous long curly hair, lovely face. She is in her 20's. Comes in to work at 0245 w/o makeup but then after report, she heads to the BR and puts it on. Way too much - "Tammy Faye" - with wild colored eye shadow. She is so much prettier w/o the makeup and has no imperfections to cover. But she won't believe us.

Do you like Bare Minerals? I have thought about trying it, it just seemed too good to be true in the advertising.

I like bare minerals too! It only takes a couple of minutes to apply and the concealer is great! Not chalky or "masky" at all.

Yes, I do. It looks more natural - to me. And covers some things I don't like about my face.

It took me a long time to try it - I've had such bad experiences with cosmetic counters.

I just use Bare Minerals real quick to get rid of the shine and to even my skin out. That's it. Even when I go out I rarely wear much more than that, and since I work with babies I don't want it to rub off on them. I'd rather spend the extra time in the morning sleeping.

We are allowed to wear "minimal" makeup at our workplace, but they don't want you to go overboard. If you do, they will send you home without pay to take it off and come back looking "decent". We are also not allowed to wear long or artificial nails or ANY nail polish if we work directly with patients.
