Anyone Here Sew their own Scrubs?

  1. Have you found a decent white fabric that's heavy enough to allow you to forego worrying about underclothing?

I sew lots of tops but, buy my pants. I just use whatever cute print fabric strikes my fancy. I try and pick fabrics that aren't too see thru. Simplicity makes a great pattern, btw.

My MIL sews all my tops for me, and I always pick print fabrics. I have never seen a white fabric that didn't show undies through, though.

You mean Tigger? I've only seen it on a light blue or light green background.

    No, Trigger.

If it comes in white, it should be heavy enough that show through would not be a problem.

Walmart has different white cotton blend that are pretty thick and they are usually under $5/yard.

I knew a woman at my last job that made her own scrub pants and skirts out of white fabric. She would make slit pockets on the back and front that made the material doubly thick in those areas. True, it didn't cover every single bit of her underwear area, but it was enough to really make a big difference.

When I was in nursing school and also working as a CNA and had to wear white pants, I'd always make sure my scrub tops were long enough to hang a little below my hips, so my butt was covered. It's not a fashion show - there are so many scrubs made nowadays that are barely to the waist! Nurses raise their arms and all you see is flesh. Very unprofessional.

I feel better now that you've clarified that. I know some people don't wear undies but I personally cannot fathom the idea. BTW it is "tigger" as in the tiger in pooh.... not trigger as in the horse or finger. Don't you just love Google! I Google all the time. Cheers!

Walmart also has some good white pants that are like $10-12 & way cheaper than making. If you want a skirt have you thought about lining it in something like tricot or poly? You'd attach it only at the waist.
