FCCJ SPRING 2010

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I know it is a little early, but anyone plan on applying for FCCJ's spring 2010 program?? If I can get my Nat points up and if I do well in Micro this summer , I will be ready to apply!!!:yeah:Finally!!

Have any of you guys taken your kid(s) to the childcare centers of fscj? Are they good there? I may take my daughter next semester on days when my babysitter isnt available . Do they have a unscheduled drop off option?

That was for spring, fall cutoff was 190. Something. When do you plan on applying?

I plan on applying for the upcoming summer semester

Gonna take my NAT some time next month

Also, we dont need our CPR stuff when we apply right?

I hear you just need it by the time you get in the program

Yea you don't need cpr until you are accepted btw if you are a male( of any race) or a minority female( any race except caucasion) they have a new program called the diversity program, if you don't get in the program the regular way you can get in thru that program! I got in the regular way though!

I was looking through the topic and read something about that. That sounds good for some of my other guy friends I know who are thinking about applying but dont really have the grades.

Do you know exactly how that works?

Like how many spots are saved and what point do they start to cutoff for the regular way?

Summer accepts only 96 students so that might make the cutoff points for the people who are trying to get in the regular way to be higher.

I hope I get in the regular way.

FLgirl06,

My son went to Chappell Schools at kent campus last semester and loved it, so did I. They are very nice and are always doing great things with the kids. They do have a drop off rate of either 5.50 an hour or 7.50 I can't remember which it is. North campus is full so you will have to check into the other campuses. You can get on a waiting list for the North campus as well.

Thats great! Thanks for the info:) Im really nervous because I have stayed home with her during the day since she was born (she's 3 now), and she has never been to daycare. I know it's going to be a challenge at first and take some getting use to, so I just hope they understand and are patient with her. I just want her to start getting use to being away from me and her dad to make the transition to preschool next year easier. What steps do I need to take? I won't have a set schedule for her to go. I may have to take her 1 day a week some weeks, 2 days a week on other weeks, and some weeks maybe not at all

Boy, I don't know how you ladies do it with these babies! Kudos to you all! A true inspriation;)

Thanks!! She and her brother are my inspiration. I'm doing it for them:) Luckily I have an extremely supportive hubby and a very helpful family, so that takes some of the pressure off me. If I didn't have them it would be really tough....

Wow, that does not seem very fair. I would much rather have a nurse that got into nursing school because they were smart enough to, rather than because they are male or of a different race. We had a lot of diversity in our class, without this program, because they earned the right to be there. We had at least 10 males out of our small 96 people class. That is almost a complete section. But that is just my two cents. I just feel for the people who barely miss it because of this program.

Taking your child to day care for the first time will be heart-wrenching. My advice is to stay strong while you say goodbye. Let them see you leave on a positive note. Also, ask the director if you could come in for 30 min or so some days in advance just to get her acclimated. Show her it's not a place for her to be scared of. Trust me I had to go through it with four children and it broke my heart every time.

For a while I took a job at the day care and it really reassured me that the teachers do care, and will keep her close the first couple of days. I would also start talking to her now about it, and let her know that she'll be going to "school" soon. If you can afford it, take her to pick out a new backpack and lunch box that you'll fill with snacks. Let her be involved in the process so that she's excited.

My biggest advice though is when you drop her off, don't linger. It just makes it worse. Walk her to her classroom, giver her hugs and kisses, and go. If she is having a terrible fit (cross our fingers she doesn't) ask for the teacher's help, and tell her goodbye one last time. You both will be fine. Good luck!

I agree but these individuals didn't miss the cutoff by that much, my friend had 192 something! They had to have a high gpa, recommendations from teachers, and advisor and go through an interview process so it wasnt like they picked someone just because they were black or a male! Another thing there were several people in the diversitu program that got in the regular way! And when I went to orientation there weren't alot of minorities that got accepted the regular way!

I'm glad someone said it! I'm mean if someone you love was in a bad car accident and seriously injured, who would you rather have taking care of them? A person who didn't make good enough grades, barely passed and probably because he/she didn't work hard enough, and the only reason they got into nursing school was because of the color of their skin or gender? Or would you rather have a nurse that worked hard and knows her stuff? Nursing school doesn't see color or gender.......it see's grades. This is entirely unfair, and I'm glad someone said so. People should get accepted because they earned the right to be there, not because of their ethnicity or gender
