Another thing there were several individuals who were considered typical nurses (white female) who didn't make the cutoff but when someone declined their seats they were offered a seat even though their points were below the cutoff! So would that be considered unfair too? I am sure they worked just as hard as the individuals who got accepted into a SEPARATE part of the nursing program! :)

My point exactly. They were offered a seat based on their points, not skin color. It is entirely fair. They were next in line in the point standings

It's the same thing for the preferred counties requirements though. I live in Clay county and if my points were not high enough I wouldn't have gotten in. They would have accepted someone with lower scores, just because they lived in Duval county. There are always exceptions, and even though the people from the diversity didn't get into the program the same way, they have to get out the same way. The standards may have been lowered (slightly) for them to get in, but they will be upheld to the same standards that we are during school, and they have to take the same test we do at the end.

Because FCCJ is a Jacksonville school! I think it is entirely fair that people from jacksonville get priority entrance. Just like at SJRCC, Clay and St. Johns residents (and baker too I believe) get a lot more entrance points for being residence of those counties. Plus, my point is, that is not based off of gender or race. It is to keep people in their own counties. The entrance standard should not be lowered for anyone. How is it okay that I have to meet certain requirements to get in and out of the program, but people of the diversity program only have to meet the standards to get out? People all through out time have fought for racial equality, to have us all treated the same no matter who we are......this is a prime example of not being treated equally. It's not like males and non-white raced people had any less of an opportunity to get accepted to the program, so why should they be given anymore than anyone else?

I persoanlly don't have a problem with the diveristy program. I have problems with the individuals taking advantage of finacial assistance. If you need it , you need it. And beleive me I used a ton of grants to get thorugh my undergrad. But I also worked, and was poor. Shopped at walmart and had the ugliest, oldest cell phone ever.

When I see people getting everything paid for that don't have kids, have HUGE diamonds on their fingers , and are toting a Coach bag ,driving a brand new car, I get frustrated. I think that help should be given where help is needed. I over heard someone saying they scammed the sytem to get more FA than they should. This to me is a MUCH a bigger issue than the diversity program. That program is trying to do good. Whether or not if it's valid isn't for me to decide. I don't know the status of the minorities in JAX. Some studies must have shown that there was need to have it.

Calm down guys! Let's not get things out of hand. Goodness, did not mean to start a fight!

But we are not condoning those who got in the regular way. They deserve to be there because they got in without any special treatment. I am disappointed in our state for funding such a program, and I can see why FSCJ would accept such a program (if someone gave me a million dollars to do reverse racism, I would jump on it!) If it was a primary black program, would priority go to whites the same way? Those who had high enough points to get in after the fact, still deserve to be there because they were next in line. I don't care if the people in the diversity program had high points; if they did not get in the regular way, why should they get special treatment? That is our argument. I am not racist nor a feminist but I still don't see how it is fair. True, we still take the same test, but that still does not make it fair that someone who was a white female who may have gotten in had it not been for this program. She should have the same chance as everyone else. And I don't see how secluding them into their own part of the program is helpful either. Like I said, oh well. There is not much anyone can do and arguing about it is not gonna get us anywhere. Like ChiCookie always tells me, We nurses have to stick together. And ladies and gentlemen, we need to stick together, regardless of our stand on this issue. Especially during this crazy economy.

You are acting like these individuals got in by being way off of the cutoff points! They were NOT! Its not liked they picked people who had 170s they are in a separate part of the program and they have to do additional stuff that the people in the regular program are not obligated to do! I know couple males and females and that program who had 3.5 or higher gpa's! They are not handing out their degree they have to work as hard as we do to graduate from the program!

It is not a matter of getting "high points"! It is a matter of whether you had enough points to make the cutoff! 192 is high points, but the cutoff for spring of '10 was 193 and anyone below that didn't get in! It was a high number of points but not high enough. And there are plently of white females who had "high points" or "just missed the cutoff". Where is there special program???? Oh wait, thats right, there ISN'T ONE. And so what if some got in the regular way. That is the only way there should be to get in! Everyone that gets in needs to get in the regular way. That is the only way it is fair

If you are a white and go to an ALL black school you do get special fundings and placement so is that fair?!? Another thing the diversity program is trying to encourage minorities to get a degree do you know the statistics on minorities w/ degree???? Nothing compares to white counterparts! I think the program will be beneficial to the minority community!

Absa-freakin'-lutly! The more I think about this the angrier I get. This is PREJUDICED at its finest. You are totally right. If this was a black school, whites would not be given any other chances for entrance. Everyone should be held to the same standard. Just because your points were high doesn't mean you deserve to get treated specially! If you didn't get accepted, there is a reason. YOUR POINTS/GRADES WERE NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Im sorry but it is not my fault or problem if people of non-white races have low statistics as far as getting a degree. If they need to be encouraged to get a degree, then encourage them! Don't give them special treatment. An I have never in my entire life heard of white people getting special funding at a primary black school.

Well no matter how many times you complain about it's not going to change it! Nursing is a predominant white female field and the stats of Northeast prove it! That's why the program was established! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion! If you don't like oh well life goes on!

AT ALL BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IF YOU ARE NOT BLACK YOU ARE CONSIDERED A MINORITY AND THEY HAVE SEVERAL SCHOLARSHIPS THAT PAY FOR THERE TUITION THE ENTIRE TIME THEY ARE THERE! I have several friends who are white and they attend FAMU and BCU and they get special consideration since they are a minority in the college
