On November 23, 2013, I filled out an application form for admission to Florida International University for its ARNP course. Upon successful completion of the form, the website had me pay a fee of $35. Only after my payment was processed, FIU directed me to CAS to fill out another application for the universities in the compact.I don't feel cheated or outraged but I feel that FIU gave me inadequate information. I have decided not to study at FIU but have not been successful in getting my application fee back because it is nonrefundable. Actually, yes, I do feel cheated by FIU.

Application fees to universities are never refunded. I'm not getting what you're saying. You pay the fee regardless of if you decide to study there and $35 is a mad cheap application fee.

Kel is right....as my children go through the college application process.....some colleges application fee's are about $100.00...stated very clearly...non-refundable. If they don't accept you...bye bye fee.

I applied to 3 schools and paid over 100 for a central processing fee. Application fees are standard.

I agree that nonrefundable application fees are standard in US colleges and universities, and $35 is darned reasonable compared to lots of schools.

You will also find this to be the case at other schools that have you complete your application packet utilizing NursingCAS. You fill out an application & pay an application fee to the school you wish to attend AND pay NursingCAS for their services.

And, please tell me you meant you applied November 2014 and haven't been obsessing about this or fighting to get your $35 back for over a year?!

I'm confused.

If OP had applied through CAS, I can see a second fee for FIU, but why would he have to use CAS if he had already applied directly?

In my time, back when we rode oxen to school and clinicals an application fee was never asked for.
