Disappointed new grad: Should I just forget about it?

Nurses New Nurse

Hello All

New grad, passed board 02/25/12. Interviewed for psych position on 03/21/2012. Nurse manager seemed impressed with my resume, introduced me to the staff as the "new nurse", took me meet the nurse manger on the other side (some floating mandatory), interview lasted over one hour.... She said she would make a decision by Friday (indicating March 30th).. I of course thanked Nurse manager AND nurse recruiter immediately after the interview. I then sent a email on 03/30 to follow up with nurse recruiter. She stated Nurse manager hasnt made decision. So I wait. April 6th I inquire again, she said decision not made. I then followed up directly with Nurse Manager, very briefly to reiterate my interest. No response.. Yet my status still says "considering". Should I give up and move on?

Never put all your eggs in one basket. Move on, although that doesn't necessarily mean you should give up on this position. Who knows, they may have had more pressing problems on the unit than your hiring process but in this job market you shouldn't be waiting around for any one position.

Move on and keep looking. Last month I interviewed for two positions. The first position was Women's health. They were so impressed with me and basically seemed like they wanted to hire me. They stated that I would here back something my Friday, My interview was on Monday. Friday came and I heard nothing. I sent thank you emails and everything. The NM and HR said I would hear something back either way. Well weeks passed by nothing. I continued to go on interviews and was offered a job in CVICU ( super excited). Moral of the story is don't put your eggs in one basket. I just knew they were going to hire me but they didn't. The finally sent me the rejection email and didn't even call me to tell me I didn't get the job like they promised.

So keep looking and move on.

thank you both... I am still applying elsewhere and have two interviews lined up for later this month. I guess my confusion lies with my status that still says "considering"... I find it a little hard to believe they havent made a decision yet. It kind of gives me a mixed message. I would just like to know one way or the other: yah or nay. It was truly consuming my every waking moment, and that itself is mentallly tiring...

Sigh....I'm going through the same aggrevation. I am graduating in 4 weeks, the local med center has several grad. nurse position openings. I just completed an internship in the ICU with a Mentor RN that has been there 10 years. I then applied for the Grad. Nurse position in the ICU, my mentor nurse, and one of the other nurses in the ICU spoke with the nurse manager before my interview, and said favorable things about me. I got along really well with all of the staff, and I loved my experience. I didn't tell anyone that I'm an LPN, and they were all impressed with my skills, and the fact that I was always willing to Dive In.

During my interview, the nurse manager said that having been an LPN, I must have good organizational skills, which would give me a good headstart. She gave me her card, and said keep in touch if I don't hear from her in a week. She said she had to interview other grads, and that she was flooded with applications, there's more than 1 position. She said I was on her list. It will be 4 weeks this Wed. I call or email her once a week. I'm wondering if some of the other grads were already hired. I'm very upset, I'm on break this week, and spend everyday waiting by the phone.

This morning i applied online to the other smaller hospital in the area for a Med/Surg grad nurse position. At this point in time I would be thrilled to get that. I really need a job, but I'll be broken hearted if I don't get the ICU job. My mentor texted me a couple of days ago to ask me if I'd heard anything yet. She said I'm part of the family now. With each passing day, and no phone call, I'm getting closer to giving up.

But the way you describe your interview, I don't think I would give up just yet if I were you.

Best of Luck to You!

Best of Luck to the both of US :)

don't contact them any more, move on ......

thank-you evolvingrn! thats exactly what I told my husband this morning....apparently this is not a good sign to you either correct? its just theres not a surplus of picking for us new RN's...>>>>

Heavenwith7: i completely understanding...this wait is so very frustrating, especially when it seem went so well during the interview. I think at some point we just need to stop reaching out and cut our losses... they know were interested...

Yeah, I left one more email today. HR was supposed to start getting back to people last Friday, today is Tuesday. This is my last attempt. I'm done. Moving on. I'm afraid I may just have to wait until the summer when I get my license, this Grad. Nurse stuff just isn't working well for me. I was very glad to see your post, perfect timing, it made me feel alot better to know that I'm not alone.

The problem is you can contact them too much and ruin your chances........its a 'fine' line and you have to be careful. I know it's hard but if you seem to desperate that is a red flag to employers. especially if your not graduating for a few month ........they are not in a huge hurry to make a decision. you need to learn to 'fake calm' . nor including your immediate thank-you's you have contacted them 4 times!!!!!!!!!! that is a lot. sometimes that can work to you favor.....but sometimes that can your name crossed off the list for consideration. but after 2 times following up as hard as it is........i think you have to sit on your hands.

Move on, don't live on promises.
