Worked 10 years as ER tech and now RN....so..whats the deal with mondays? Why is it universally insane? I have entertained many theories and and interested in hearing yours! Here are some of mine:
1. Daddy goes back to work and now mommy gets bored and figures, "lets go get a check up"
2. Having too much fun partying on the weekend, now that monday is here, I can address my long standing foot pain.
3. Kid doesn't wanna go to school so he will fake sick and go to ER

Hi,
Here is my theory: Too much crack and ETOH, not enough money, and they just want a bed to sleep in and a hot meal. Time to recover from the weekend. Takes time away from the really sick patients I have. I actually had a lady yell at me for forgetting to bring her a blanket because I had to go next door and help intubate another patient. She WALKED in the front door c/o belly pain, and the other patient came in by EMS on C-PAP with sats in the low 80's. She never did fully get it, even after she complained to the charge nurse (who backed me up) about me ignoring her. But why is it always Monday or Tuesday? Your guess is as good as mine.

Sometimes the truly sick wait out the weekend, then cannot get an appointment with their doc on Monday because they're booked up. "Go to the ER." Lol

This is the main reason on our ER, patients tell us this is why they are there. We also get slammed Sunday evenings in the summer, as we are just outside of Philadelphia and we get people coming home from the New Jersey shore with all of the cuts and sprains they did not take care of over the weekend.

And Tuesday seems to be the new Monday....
Isn't that the truth!
Sunday evening is well-populated by the, "I can't face going to work/school/life tomorrow" crowd. But Tuesdays - SHEESH!

Sunday's are the worse for us!! We are SWAMPED! We always have a mixture of really sick people (CVA's, MI's, resp arrest, etc.) and the ones who got drunk after the game (I live in a SEC college town) and all the underage drunks that we are waiting on mommy and daddy to come pick up. Really ****** me off they are taking up a bed from someone who needs it. Then we have the ones who don't want to go to work on Monday. After they've been waiting 5 minutes they say..."I'm leaving because it's taking too long. Can I get an excuse for work tomorrow?" I smile and say "No, but if you come back you have to start over from the beginning." They sit right back down.

Quietest duing the Super Bowl, then all heck breaks loose!
These are the folks who also want a work note for missing work on Monday! Haha! I tell them we don't go backwards in time...

Down here in football country, Friday nights are dead.
Here's what's going on Mondays.
1. Laid out of work all weekend, need a note.
2 .Drunk and drugged up all weekend, need a prescription to cover what was taken.
3. Family out doing all of the above and mother could not get a ride to the Dr. or Ed.
