Do any of you CNAs out there get paid for CEUs/In-services?

And is it mandatory to get paid for that?

I remember when I started to work for this home care agency. They had a 30-40 hours of mandatory training before starting work and it was not paid.

At least when I worked in retail, the store had paid training.

Specializes in Leadership, Psych, HomeCare, Amb. Care.

Generally, if it's mandatory, they must pay employees for their time.

Yes, you should be getting paid for education/training. I even got paid for going to see the Employee Health nurse last week for my flu shot.

I work in a nursing home. Our mandatory inservices are paid but at a lower rate than our "working on the floor" pay rate.

Some of our CEU's that we are required to have to keep our certification are paid, again at a different lesser rate, and others we can take home and do which, we don't get paid for. We have a choice of which one's to do, just as long as we get the required hours done.

Our home care have valentary training which are not paid. Though they do look good when you go to your review, so there are benifits of that to go for them. and then the rest of our manitory inserves are at home work sheets that we hand in. We have to do 12 of those a year so we don't get paid for inservices really.

Sometimes an employer has paid for inservices, and sometimes they have not. Sometimes the same employer has paid and then they stop paying. Whichever way, mandatory or not, when they serve lunch or a snack, they get better participation.

This is a factual statement in all professions…

As for the OP, if you come in to work for required education, you should be paid.

We get paid for all CNA meetings, in services, and education days.

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

Initial training/orientation was all paid. We get paid for CEUs done through our agency - I've voluntarily taken a couple of courses outside, for personal interest, and wasn't paid for those but they did count towards my hours for continuing training. We all get paid if we have to come in for a meeting outside of our scheduled work time.
