I have a couple interviews for PCT positions, but I have no idea what to expect as a salary. I am a student nurse in NE FL. Please tell me where you live, your experience, and how much you make. I know I will probably have to take a pay cut, but to be doing what I am going to school for will be worth it, I think. Thanks for you help!
Those pay rates are terrible. No wonder there are so many bad and lazy CNA's who hide in patients rooms and talk on cell phones. My first CNA job with no experience paid $7.35/hour in 1994 in a nursing home in the midwest.
10 years later it doesn't seem to pay much better. No wonder nursing homes have such bad people working for them. You get what you pay for.
If you're a nursing student, you usually have two options. You can either get hired on full or part-time or you can be a flex employee. I work in central Fl & my job description is "Nurse Tech" & I work flex - meaning I work whenever I want to rather than having a set weekly schedule. My base pay is $12/hr. I usually work weekend nights so my pay is $15.21/hr with the differential. If I had chosen to be hired on as an employee & receive benefits, starting pay would be $8/hr.
In Arkansas, where I am, CNA's fresh out of school start out at $7.50...but at the LTC facility where I used to work, since they were so short staffed, the CNA's who worked extra shifts made $18.oo per hour, which is considerably more than the amount of pay I received working as an LPN on the same shift. I could get more pay to volunteer to work a shift as a CNA than an LPN - which some nurses actually did.
hello there:rolleyes: i am ruby first year nursing student from australia. i only have 2 weeks to go until the final exams (wish me luck guys:p ). i am working in one of the hospital as pca which my duties includes showering, toileting, change bed linens etc. i am earning $17.50 p/hr during mon-fri, $25.70 saturday and $ 30.00 p/hr on sundays. i usually get 4 days of work in the hospital and sometimes if i am lucky maybe 5 days p week.
bye for now and may god bless you all...tsuuuuuuuuuuuuppppppppppp:p
This area of NC pay starts @ $7.50 for CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (15 week course with a state test!) It sucks! It's not much better after a year or at the local hospital. It's so sad to work so hard, care for people, and be paid so little!!
Forgot to mention, most places DO NOT GIVE BENEFITS!!:angryfire

In Central Florida you can be hired at all of the local hospitals as a PCT or Nurse Tech after you have completed your first semester of an ADN program. Starting pay is $12 plus shift diff
