  1. My current hospital is requiring the same thing. Color coding and you have to buy a specific brand that they picked out. They say it is because different companies colors are not all the same. Also, we all have to purchase all of our own new uniforms. I have heard there is a law against this (requiring a specific brand) in the state of Florida but I haven't been able to find anything on it yet. Does anyone else know?? Thanks
  2. If you don't mind me asking, what hospital is this at? I think I read one of your previous posts that said you were in Central Florida? I am on a tele floor in Central Florida - Fl Hospital Fish Memorial, but our orientations last 12 weeks with alot of support after that from the rest of the floor nurses and clinical leaders.
  3. Hi, I am transferring from PCU to a Mother-Baby Unit and would love to find a good pocket guide. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
  4. Jenniferhelene - I see you are in Central Fl. What hospital is it that you work at?
  5. I'm curious if you can tell me which hospital you are at? I'm in Central Florida also but at the Florida Hospital location that I am at on the PCU/Telemetry/Step-Down our ratio is 1:4 or 1:5 depending on our census. We either have no tech or 1 tech to anywhere between 15-25 patients.
  6. Where at in Central FL - I'm at Florida Hospital in Central FL and our new grad base is $18.15 + diff. Thanks
  7. If I have to take my daughter to school on the first day back, I get up around 6am and do all the kid stuff, then take a nap from 12pm to 3pm. If I don't have to take her to school, I just stay in bed and sleep in, usually til around 10am. Even if I wake up earlier I make myself stay in bed and just rest until around 10am. Then on my last day of working I will come home and take just a couple hour nap and then go to sleep that night at a normal time. Works pretty good for me.
  8. I worked at Florida Hospital Waterman while I was in nursing school and it was a very nice hospital. They seemed to treat their employees pretty well there. I have finished nursing school and took a position at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City. This is a nice hospital as well, as long as you don't want to work in the E.R. They are really desperate in the ER and it is run very poorly!!
  9. I took it on Feb. 28 and I had 8 check all that apply.
  10. Florida is 45 days
  11. I'm in Florida also. I graduated on Dec 16 and I received my ATT yesterday by email.
  12. I have wanted to get one of these for a long time but haven't been able to figure out whether a Palm or a Pocket PC would be a better choice. Any suggestions? Also, I would like to get one that would play MP3's and that would be very versatile. Thanks for any help!!
  13. In Central Florida you can be hired at all of the local hospitals as a PCT or Nurse Tech after you have completed your first semester of an ADN program. Starting pay is $12 plus shift diff
  14. I'm here in Central Florida right outside of Daytona and our stores around here have been out of batteries since the beginning of the week. If you get lucky and get to the stores at the right time (right when they are unloading a truck, you can get water), but most of our stores are out of everything. I have to work the 7p-7a shift tonight at our hospital and was told to bring enough clothes to last until Monday because you might not be able to leave. Oh well, just hope everything goes okay!!!
  15. We have about a month left of psych. Just can't wait until it's over!! For 1st semester we went to nursing homes first then to the hospitals. The hospitals were Fl Hospital Fish and Fl Hospital DeLand. 2nd semester it's all at the hospital - both Fish and Deland. They are supposed to be starting a new program where the older students are available to the new students for questions. You will probably be getting the name of the older student that was assigned to you. If you have any specific questions about anything you can send me a private message. Good luck!
