Why is it important to study Anatomy and physiology in school of Nursing.
cant understand pathophysiology without anatomy, physiology and micro. cant understand medical terminology basics either. good grades in these classes makes fundamental nursing just a itty itty bit easier. everyone in my fundamentals class, who got c's in the above three classes failed first semester rn. a direct corelation, mabey not, but definately worth thinking about.

CNA's/PCT's how much do you make?
9.25 hr for ltc. its worth the short communte and they work around my nursing school schedule, both very impt to consider when accepting a position. good luck w/your interview.

El Camino College in Torrance
according to the info session i attended last month yes, there is a waiting list but not as long as santa monica or glendale. some of the prereqs can be completed during the first semester of nursing as well. go to the nursing dept and pick up an info sheet to attend their info session. this will answer all your questions. good luck!

6 months LVN program?????
there is one in south bay where their literature states six months. i went and checked out their location, classroom, and spoke to their assistant/secretary, (i really dont know who he was because he never introduced himself -how professional, right?). i dont know if they are legit. because i couldnt find anything listed on ca.gov website. personally i think its a joke but mabey they will be receptive to other potential students. there are other details too but really, why waste money and time on a program with no pass rates, no graduated students (as far as i was told), high fees paid monthly and the possiblity of finishing the program and failing the lpn test.

Nursing program at GoldenWest College
while doing your prereqs at golden west i recommend checking out other local nursing programs such as cerritos. mabey one school has a longer waiting list than another. or, once your ready for nursing school, youll have a choice of where to attend. anyhoo, just a thought. have fun with your prereqs!

New LPN and no jobs available.
lvn's are greatly needed from what ive seen at the few clinical sites ive been to. the trend (if the rn's & lvn's are correct at the clinicals), is to remove cna's from the payroll and broaden lvn work to inlude cna care. so no job where you live or overworked to death over here. good luck and keep your chin up!

Any good websites for medical terminology?
ec.hdu.hk/mt/ & dmu.edu/medterms/ were the two sites i received when i posted the same thread. ultimately the textbook required for our class was most useful.

Getting Into School is Taking Forever
Would you consider the rop programs in la county too? perhaps they have a shorter waiting list. also, some community colleges in la county have lvn if your looking for programs outside of rop. if you wont locate north a bit then how about doing some prereqs for an rn program?

CNA Concerns
Your worries are natural. Once you get the hand (hehehe), of peri care you'll do fine. Knowing the pt feels great after being cleaned makes the job easier. Remember, treat them like they were your family and you'll do good.

Week 1 of 6-week Microbiology class...
A six week killer schedule is still better than a sixteen week killer schedule in micro. Leave early if you finish your lab early and let the instructor know you may be overwhelmed at times. The teacher may work with you and direct your studies on specific topics. When lecture is boring, prepare and read the lab to be done that day. Make a chart with all your different stains, procedures, etc for studying too. Record lecture and listen to it in the car. If your in la theres tons of traffic jams for that. Know that you can do it and theres only five weeks left! I did micro in five weeks and just inched my way to get the lowest B possible and nothing more. Do well in the class but dont get to the point of falling asleep behind the wheel!!!!!

Prereqs 7 years ago
Check several schools because many of them have different recency requirements (five years, ten years etc.), and some dont have any. If theres a school you want which has a recency, and your prereqs are too old, see if they have an exam you can take which covers all of the particular material. Schools here have them in chem, math, and sciences. A passing score should then be accepted in place of sitting and taking the particular subject. I hope you can do this so your one or two semesters closer to beginning nursing school!

nursing overseas
This doesnt answer your questions but it is some input on overseas work. As a kid growing up overseas w/ parents working in a american hospital, it's an obsolute wonderful experience. The travel and boarding schools is an experience I hope many kids will have. In fact, I'm switchig careers so I can go back as an adult.

asbestos exposure, nodule on lung question??
Knowing if exposure is related to his occupation would be a give away because some industries either use asbestos in their products or is a part of manufacturing. Since airborne asbestos fiber exposure regulation is fairly new, (last thirty year), speaking with him about the industry he worked in, and exactly what he did, would help to narrow the time of potential exposure. Speaking with his coworkers and any problems they may have with asbestosis would certainly be a giveaway. There can be decades from being diagnosed with asbestosis and when exposure occured. Feel free to email me if you have any questions related to asbestos and I can forward you related info from epa, osha, niosh.
