Are there any certified cna's working without their GED or highschool diploma?? Is it even possible since you can be certified without your GED??

I think a lot of CNA programs just want you to read on an 8th grade level. And then once you become a CNA, jobs just mainly require you to be listed on your state nurse aide registry.

I've met a couple of CNA's without GED's or HS diplomas.

Should you ever decide you want to progress to LPN, you will need a high school diploma or GED. Even if you leave health care, a hs diploma or GED certificate will come in very handy in the future.

At my school, you do not need it, but you do need to be at least 16 I believe. Getting it can't hurt though.

You don't need it at my school either. However, some jobs may require it so it doesn't hurt to get it. I know it's a pain to plan 8+ around a test but you'll be so glad you did. A GED opens as many doors as a HS diploma. Good luck.

Get your GED. In 2011 you think, you don't need one? Gees.....!!!!!

Also- they are changing the test in 2012 so if you want the current test (which is said the be easier than the new one) you should bite the bullet and take it. If you fail a section of the test it will need to be repeated. If that happens before the change and you don't repeate the section(s) failed you'll have to retake the entire new test. I'm not trying to lecture you.. just trying to impress upon you the importance of getting this exam out of the way.

Why is everyone hanging up on me? Did I say it was me without a ged? NO! My 20 year old friend wants to be a Cna. I'm asking on her behalf because I don't know. I know at hospitals u definitely can't get in.

I live in Texas, where a person can become a CNA as long as they are at least 15 years old and have completed the 9th grade. In other words, a high school diploma or GED is not a requirement for becoming a CNA in the state where I live.

Please, don't take offense where none was intended. In the absence of clarifying information, it's a logical assumption that you were asking for yourself.

It's good that you're helping your friend. Maybe the changes ahead in 2012 will give her incentive to go after her GED before it becomes more difficult.

I hope she can get what she needs to move forward.

Thread moved to CNA forum where other CNAs are more likely to see it.
