Bring my own patient??!!

I am scheduled to do my NAC exam this saturday, and I just got a call from NACES, that I have to bring someone with me for my skills exam.

Does this mean there are no other students testing except for me?

Anyone else have this happen?

Yes, that's how it's done in my state. You are not permitted to use another student for your patient.

Huh? Is this how it is? I have to take an STNA course next week (I've heard CNA and STNA are pretty much the same -I guess STNA seems to be an Ohio thing). For some reason I was thinking the state test was done at like the clinical site with a real patient. Am I wrong? I have to bring my own patient to like a test site?

My instructor never told us that, she always said to be prepared to be a patient for someone else, all the literature, everything....maybe this is something new WA state is doing. I will find out tomorrow! Wish me luck! LOL! (Good thing my MIL was visiting...so she will be my patient.)

Wow.

Our instructor told us we couldn't use a classmate (or anyone we knew who had taken the class within a certain time frame) for the state testing on the first night of our class.

I heard certain states did it like that..wow. IN MD we got to use our classmates..I can't imagine if I had to use one of my friends or relatives!!

As it turned out I was the only one there to test....the others canceled, so that is why I had to bring my own patient.

She gave me all the easiest skills....fingernail care, turning on side, weight, and TED stockings.....

I passed! Yippee!! I am glad it worked out that way...it was very relaxed and casual...she and my MIL were laughing and talking away while I was doing the skills....it was perfect! LOL!!
