CNAS, what's it like at your nursing home/long term care facility?
I don't understand why LTC places are like this! It would seem like it would be the opposite way around! Low pay for what we do, when nurses sit on their butt and 'chart' all day and get paid 3 times as much! We should get paid a hell of a lot more, and the DONs need to realize that we need more help! With how much it costs to live in the place I work, you'd think that they would hire more help, I KNOW they can afford it. The place is a joke! Gee what would they do if the families knew how it REALLY was? Most LTC facilites would be out of business and have fines right up their patooty!!!!! It's soooooo sad...but what's even sadder is the fact that there is NOTHING we can do about it, because when you inquire about a better and safer way of doing things, the DON just brushes you off because it reality they don't even have the slightest idea of how hard it is dealing with everything, and they just don't care! And the situation with the lifts is ridiculous! So unsafe! With the sit to stands, there is NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR 2 people operating them....even though lifts are supposed to have 2 people, and even with the 2 assists they don't even use 2 people! One day I had a very combative lady falling out of it, her feet completelt off the platform falling face forward because she was wriggling around, this is why she is a 2 assist! Her chin was resting on the bar in front of her and she about broke her neck! All because the other cna I was working with told me that it only takes 1 of us! She would not help me. So I did it by myself. And that's what happened! GRRRRRRRR. I have done this lady many times by myself but recently the DON told a few of us in a meeting that they are not to be done alone anymore. I even told the other cna this, she said "oh that's probably just for a certain time of day" IS SHE RETARDED? So many things have happened in that place I don't even know where to begin. I could seriously write a book. If only the families really knew how it was when they aren't around. But of course they can't tell their familes because they don't have the mind to! alshksdflash dlkuja;lsd hfsdhg AHHHHHa;hdpsijdfposiujs!!!!!! Sorry, I just get flared up everytime I think of all of these things!

want to quit my CNA job, need advice
dont feel bad. this was me when i started. and depending on the work load, work will be torture the whole time youre there. i just quit my cna job after being there 6-7 months because the environment was hostile, people refused the hard assignments so id always get them, people were treated like cattle, not taken care of, too much work load, and just overall a horrible place, it was my first cna job and the first day i was there i didnt think id last, 7 months later im throwing in the towel. this job was torture, most LTC facilities are, i hear. i got pain under 10 dollars an hr to be tortured. i cannot deal with it anymore. the place is hell and residents are not treated well AT ALL!!!!! dont torture yourself, it will only make you mad, depressed, sad, frustrated, bitter, and you will lose your compassion. i quit before i stopped totally caring about the people i was trying to help. a lot of people dont, and thats how they are able to treat the residents like rag dolls. i dont want to get to that point, i got in this to help people, not hurt them and neglect them. so...i am so outta there.

CNA wear
if you're going to be a cna, you'll be sweating buckets the whole time, you wont need a jacket

The NOC shift doesn't wake up ANYONE in the morning...is this normal?
I work 3rd shift, after a crazy exhausting night we have to get up as many as we can by 7:30, starting at 6. they are all total care and it takes time. day shift always says we dont get up enough people and are always asking us who we are getting up next, even when its time for us to go home. usually we have time to get up 3-4 people together. our residents dont have a choice, unless they are really really really sick, they have to go to the dining room. they are treated like cattle and its sad. if someone doesnt want to get up, they say too bad they have to get up, and they act like we are just trying to be lazy about it.

What you'd REALLY like to say....
To the husband of a 2-3 assist total care patient, stop acting like it takes too long for us to get to your wife to change her or put her on/off the commode. We have tried to hold her up and wipe her 5-6 times already in the past 20 minutes. SHE'S NOT DONE YET. THAT'S PROBABLY WHY SHE JUST **** ON MY HAND AND ON THE FLOOR, 3 SEPERATE TIMES. THERE ARE 18 OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS UNIT WHO ARE TOTAL CARE, QUIT PUSHING THE CALL LIGHT EVERY 5 MINUTES! To everyone who works at my facility- STOP CALLING ME EVERY DAY TO COME IN, YOU EVEN CALL ME TO COVER DAYS THAT I ALREADY WORK! STOP CALLING IN 4-8 TIMES A MONTH. EVERY PERSON THAT WORKS THERE DOES THIS. How do they still have a job, you ask? I HAVE NO IDEA. To the lady that puts her call light on 20 times a night to go to the bathroom. STOP DRINKING AS MUCH WATER/COFFEE AS YOU CAN ALL NIGHT just because you think going to the bathroom is something to do! GO TO SLEEP. YOU'RE FALLING ASLEEP ON THE COMMODE BECAUSE YOU'RE JUST THAT RIDICULOUS! To the immature cnas who ask me to cover their shift because of whatever excuse, no, because I know you just want to go to a party or just don't want to come in to work because you hate that place. I hate it to, so **** OFF!

CNAS, what's it like at your nursing home/long term care facility?
I'm getting really burned out with a lot of things going on in the facility I work in. Way too many things to name. What's it like where you work in terms of call-ins, scheduling, lazy cnas, mean residents, cold DONs, favoritism, work load, etc. ?
-
How much homework for CNA class?
i had no homework besides studying what we went over in class
-
When should I call?
when i apply anywhere no matter what job i usually call about 3 days later, tell them my name, and that i turned in an app, and ask if they are hiring
-
Question about 3rd shift?
i thought the same thing about the place i did my clinicals, which is where i work now. beware
-
Are you happy at your workplace?
no, theres a lot of backstabbing where i work and a lot of people are against eachother. people refuse to do certain things and people refuse to do certain sides of the building. one side is way harder than the other. people call in all the time. people act like their way is the best way, and act like they know everything. i get called EVERY day i have off, and sometimes on days that i already work wanting me to work a double. nobody is ever punished or talked to for calling off. most call off to party/fake sick, and its known throughout the building and nothing is done about it. i hate ltc. thinking about doing something else all together.

How physically demanding is working as a cna?
no no no no no no, you wont be able to do anything you need to in ltc. in ltc there is no easy work. it is VERY physically demanding and you sweat bullets allllll day and you will have enough pain from the job alone, you wont be able to do it with having surgery on top of it. p.s. and it wont be safe for the residents to get care from someone whos injured
