Nursing Students Chamberlain College

Published

I have never been to college except when i was younger i went to a vocational school for medical assisting which i had to drop out because i was young with 2 kids at the time with no help from their dad. now i'm married with 2 more kids and i desperately need a career. i cant depend on my husband forever. I was looking into to Chamberlain College of Nursing in Houston because there are no waiting lists. I can not afford to take risks at a CC at this point and age of my Life. What I'm asking is if there is anyone out here like me that is in nursing school now or have graduated? how tough is it with mutiple kids? My husband is very supportive and we can now afford for me to attend school but money isn't the issue. I'm just nervous that it'll be too overwhelming with all these kids we have.

You still have most of your life left, no you are not too old. You are never too old to learn new things and start a career. If you are in a place to do it, then go for it.

No, you are not too old but you haven't taken college courses and Chamberlain is very expensive.

I'd suggest taking some courses at your community college first. They can test you to assess if you are prepared to take the courses you need. If so, take composition or other corequisite courses to save some money.

If not ready, you can take courses that will bring you up to the level you need to succeed

Plus, you can use the prep tell to maybe get onto the waiting list of a more affordable school.

Maybe you'll be ready for them at the same time they are ready for you.

Good luck.

Why do you think that CC is more "risky"? The course content won't be any harder than it is at other schools. It will be a whole lot cheaper. Chamberlain does not have a good track record... it is a very expensive for-profit that will leave you with a LOT of debt even if you aren't able to finish and graduate. CC is 'pay as you go', and you will probably be eligible for financial aid if your hubbie is the only source of income. The Houston area has several very strong CC nursing programs. Go with one of them instead, you'll be much better off.

Not risky as in course content difficulty. I mean risky as in the waiting list part for actual nursing school. I agree about taking prereqs at a CC. That would be what i will do.

I am 39 with 4 kids going to nursing school. If you're too old, then I'm too old plus 10.

And I'm not even too old.

I'm 32 with four kids starting nursing school next month. You're not too old!!

I graduated last year at 33 with 5 kids....first ever in my family. You can do it!

I graduated at age 43, worked full time as a CNA at the hospital I currently work at now as an RN...married with 4 kids.

No you're not too old...and yes its doable! :)

Don't let a number dictate what you can and can't achieve in life.

congrats!! this gives me hope! thanks for the share:)

I'm a Chamberlain student, and I absolutely love it! Depends on where you are I guess. I'm a not traditional student with children, one is a teenager, and one is a toddler. It's not easy, but it can be done. I'm doing very well in my program! I do love Chamberlain, but it is expensive. Weigh your pro's and cons. With no prerequisites you can be done in 3 years, but it costs more. If you go to cc you can transfer credits in if you still want to go there, but it will most likely take longer. I transferred a bunch of credits in, but it took a while. Really look at the school(s) before you decide. I'm not in Houston, so I don't know how that Chamberlain is, but talk to people that have actually attended. Good luck!
