Stenberg College

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi to all,

I'm inquiring for the Psychiatric Nursing Program on Stenberg College. I'm going to attend the information session in the upcoming week. I have a couple of questions since it's a private college do they keep a waiting list and is it hard to get in?

haha wow! the post above is quite hard.

I have been reading around and inquiring about psych nursing in volunteer settings and professionals that work in the field.

Many do say it's better to go to douglas or kwantlen, but what about for those of us that don't want to wait that long to get into Douglas College.

I mean isn't it quite hard to get into the douglas college program?

I was born in BC and finished a crim associates, and I find it quite hard to get into douglas. I think I would be at 8-10 points.

But that is only because of my prior education, I can't imagine how hard it must be for someone who has not gone to a public secondary school let alone not from Canada.

I would think Stenberg is a good option. I mean why would stenberg keep running, if it's such a bad school??? I mean one pays a lot of money to get into the stenberg program.

It's only reasonable to think that one will get hired after graduating and will succeed and if that is the case then the place should be banned.

Stenburg in various forms has been around for years. It used to be vocational.

It's hard to get into any publicly funded nursing programme. Places like Stenburg and Sprott-Shaw exist for people who think they shouldn't have to wait to get an education. Years ago, the only way to become a psych nurse was to train at the old Riverview facility and it's affiliated sites. They didn't care if you didn't want to wait. You met their requirements.

Read through the board some more. These two schools have dismal reputations. They will promise you the earth to get your cash. They don't guarantee you will pass or become licensed.

On the stenberg website it shows two students that are in or were in the program that have done quite well.

I personally met a RPN that got licensed and she came from Stenberg. She did mention that Douglas and Kwantlen are better schools. =S

She said something about the adminstration is bad in Stenberg and the other RPN in the volunteer setting told me that he would hire someone from Douglas over Stenberg because of the quality of education from Douglas.

I just find it really hard to believe that stenberg is that bad. Especially when one pays more at that school then Douglas College.

I guess for me I don't really want to wait if I were to get into psych nursing at douglas college, because the home situation is quite nuts! and moving out without a backup in this economy in BC does not seem like a smart idea.

Stenberg for me and others that want to get that education quicker seems at least on paper like a more attractive option.

not going to lie I have heard and read bad stuff from stenberg. =(

What you want to find out is: what is their graduation rate in proportion to how many start the course, how many grads pass the registration exam first try, how many grads are employed.

My nursing class (at a public school) started with 72, 40 graduated and all passed on first writing. Within five years, 5 nurses that I know of had left the profession.

These are all things you need to consider.

lol...the website will obviously self promote their students, so it would be surprising for them NOT to put some type of positive advertisements about their programs on their website. The graduation to jobs ratio was 98 percent..then it slowly started to drop..and drop. There is a career services and alumni coordinator there who keeps track of students graduating compare to jobs that are obtained (they call you within 6 months..half the students in my class never received this "call"), while she was helping us with our resumes, she was telling students that she can omit students and rates from the stats depending on "circumstances" so you never actually know what is factual and what is not. Stenberg does not seem better on paper...i work with RPNs from fraser health and vch, they all avoid stenberg because the educational component is self taught and nowhere near what you would receive from douglas..in comparison..douglas offers a bachelors of science degree in pnursing because there is research intensive courses that prepare you to work in research positions in the field of p nursing..kwantlen only offers a b. of p nursing because it is more pragmatic and practical, stenberg only transfers to kwantlen because of this..and the fact that the dean for stenbergs p nursing program WORKS at kwantlen (corruption if you ask me). stenberg is NOT A COLLEGE. it is an institution regulated by PCTIA (private career training institution) which means it is a FOR PROFIT training institution that mainly prepares people for career specific paths..pctia is not a government body, so they have no say in what quality of education is being delivered...only the provincial government has that authority to assign a college or institution with EQA (to date, there is only one private institution or "college" in BC with EQA status and that is the adler school of professional psychology). whatever you do, just be cautious, 2 years may sound like a short amount of time, but the entire course is self taught, and the instructors are garbage...google jon cutcliffe...he was a stenberg employee for the RPN program and quit his job/has a lawsuit against stenberg for them trying to force him to perform and teach stuff that is outside of an RPN's scope of practice:

Texas man sues Canadian college for breach of contract - Southeast Texas RecordSoutheast Texas Record

quality of education is ****..ive been there, so has everyone i know, and they all regretted it. do what you want but as i said before, youve been warned

I believe you. Especially since I have asked people that are RPN's about Stenberg. They told me the same thing that the schools has problems.

WOW! this is absolutely crazy. Yeah haha I don't think I will enter Stenberg especially after studying at Kwantlen and especially after doing research.

I would feel very angry, it would hit me quite hard after studying a criminology associates degree to get into stenberg and spend more money and be dealing with this stuff.

Douglas College would be the way to go for me or even Kwantlen, but not for commuting purposes since I believe they offer the program in langley way too far for me.

HOLY! thanks for the warning.

Those data is hard to find especially for an immigrant who have no one to ask but the internet... :-(

try to remember that people will most likely write reviews when they have had a bad experience.

I went to stenberg college and yes the administration is cliquey and all they do want is your money but fortunately I got awesome awesome awesome instructors! and that is the only reason I did so well in my program. It was all due to my teachers (and one of them graduated from stenberg way back when as well). Also, I did get jobs at two different places after 2 months of completing my program so there are people who hire you! plus at my practicum sites there were also a bunch of stenberg college graduates.

First and only post,. Sock puppet for Steinburg?

Maybe, but there's no evidence.

I'm in a waiting list for the RDPN Program of Stenberg College. They have hundreds of applicants this season according to the Program registrar. She's not even sure if I'm in next spring. I'm really surprised cause they claim they don't have a waiting list in their website. Well I guess the online schooling is a hit nowadays....
