  1. 100% agree with the staffing shortage. Homes were understaffed even before the pandemic and sad to say that it will likely stay the same after it's over too. Home and LTC nurses do the same assessments and interventions and usually with less hands on deck when a clients status turns south. It doesn't get enough credit. I guess a lot of it really is a matter of people not knowing what we actually do. ?‍♀️ I'm happy with where I am when I look back at where I started from.
  2. Thank you for your response; It was just what I needed. I do think a lot of the mainstream medical shows shine an artificial light on what it's like working in a hospital. All areas of work should be appreciated equally. Home care and LTC is so undervalued in my opinion! It's refreshing to hear you, as an LPN, point out that LPNs are in fact valuable and all the positives that come with it. Thanks again ?
  3. I've been an LPN for about 3 years and I work in LTC. Whenever the topic of my job comes up I can't help but notice that people are disappointed in my response. First I'm an LPN and not an RN and then I work in LTC and not a hospital ... Anyone else? How do you deal with it?
  4. Hi everyone! This is my first question I have posted here however I have been reading dozens of posts for a long time! Anywhooo... I am a recent LPN grad and I have been called for many interviews however ... they all offer me casual positions!! Is this normal? I live in BC in the lower mainland.. I know if I go up north they are highly short staff and will be offered full/part-time but at the moment that isn't possible. I am really thankful that i'm even getting calls for interviews but right now I am working only 2-3 shifts a month! BTW I have only applied at LTC facilities because I like geriatric care... What would happen if I apply at hospitals? I never see any posting on Fraser Health about hiring LPNs. How long did it take you to get a full or part-time line? Thank you!
  5. try to remember that people will most likely write reviews when they have had a bad experience. I went to stenberg college and yes the administration is cliquey and all they do want is your money but fortunately I got awesome awesome awesome instructors! and that is the only reason I did so well in my program. It was all due to my teachers (and one of them graduated from stenberg way back when as well). Also, I did get jobs at two different places after 2 months of completing my program so there are people who hire you! plus at my practicum sites there were also a bunch of stenberg college graduates.
