Stenberg College

World Canada CA Programs

Hi to all,

I'm inquiring for the Psychiatric Nursing Program on Stenberg College. I'm going to attend the information session in the upcoming week. I have a couple of questions since it's a private college do they keep a waiting list and is it hard to get in?

Stenberg does not have a waitlisting program..per say. they offer it to people who can pay. if someone is unable to secure funding, then they are dropped and they offer it to the next person who is interested, unlike public colleges where you are waitlisted according to your overall cumulitive grading, etc.

stenberg is a garbage school, they are last pick for fraser health hires and not worth the 45 grand you have to shell out to have the "privalege" of learning by yourself...i regret ever going there. the reason why there is soooo much competition for the next intake is because the diploma program is going to be discontinued very very soon as a bachelors is becoming the new standard for entry to practice due to the increased scope of practice that was awarded to RPN's a few months ago.

i regret ever going there...it did its job, but i wasnt going to school for a program that required me to pass a registration exam with a major regulatory body.

I'm currently in my second year in the psyc nursing program at Stenberg. So far, there have been some hiccups, but for the most part things have gone well. I have had 4 amazing clinical instructors as well as 4 amazing clinical placements and have learned a ton! I to have heard negatives about Stenberg in the community from other rpns, but more recently have been hearing more positives.

Online learning is what YOU make of it. Several of us in my cohort get together and study above and beyond the required materials and from feedback on clinicals, it shows.

I have been asked by 2 of my clinical sites to apply once I graduate as have 2 others in my group.

Online learning is not for everyone, but I already have a ba in phys, so felt or was the best option for ME.

I'm in a waiting list for the RDPN Program of Stenberg College. They have hundreds of applicants this season according to the Program registrar. She's not even sure if I'm in next spring. I'm really surprised cause they claim they don't have a waiting list in their website. Well I guess the online schooling is a hit nowadays....

you know what if you need to go to Stenberg College to get the RDPN then do so. I come to realize that not everyone can commute to Douglas or Kwantlen.

One need to take into account that also when going to a school, like why would one take 4 hours to get to langley or 1 hour and a half to get to class.

When an option is available online. Going that far for school is madness!!!!!! Yeah I bet online learning can be a hit since like I said commuting can be an issue for many people.

Wish you the best.

Hi All,

I am new to allnurses.com and a first semester RPN student at Stenberg. I checked this place out when I was doing research on various schools for LPN, RN, and RPN programs early last year. One thing I wanted to check in on was the private sector schools. I have a young daughter, she is 19 months old now, a mortgage, and a wife who is a recent BCIT grad and is now a registered cardio tech with Fraser Health (8 months). When searching for schools, I had to seriously consider the implications of time restrictions, ability to do my part in generating income, taking care of my family, studying and how much time I'd be in school for.

My wife liked the idea of doing the LPN program, then bridging to RN, but I didn't like that idea. I am also a 9 year veteran of the Armed Forces and really liked the idea of Psychiatric Nursing, which brought my list of schools down to 3. 2 were in class full-time, and then there's Stenberg, which after reading through this and various other sites, is obviously frowned upon. I was nervous, and believe me it was not an easy choice, but I chose to take a gamble (huge one), and go with Stenberg. Not an easy option after reading through here and googling RDPN Stenberg... But my wife did her BCIT cardio tech diploma online and figured its clearly possible. Online learning is definitely not for everyone, and my wife worked hard at it to succeed, and make honours too. Her clinical sites loved her and she works at both her clinical sites now (BUH, and LMH). She works alongside many Stenberg cardio tech grads, and students doing their practicums. While she says it is clear that most of them don't have the mindset of BCIT grads, many of them are employed by Fraser Health, and many of them go to Fraser Health hospitals for practicums...

Online schooling and private schooling is what you make of it, and the individuals who go through it are what make the person. My wife is very close with her LMH preceptor and she is a Stenberg grad, my wife respects her and the skills that she brings from her experience. My wife encouraged me to take this gamble and go with Stenberg, and I love how so many people can just bash it without having ever gone through them yourselves. Yeah, I'm in my first semester but I am loving it so far, its hard, and its different then construction project management, and my time in the Forces, but I'm headed somewhere with my life now, and am doing something that I hope will one day encourage my daughter to take a similar path as mom and dad. There's things that I'd want them to do differently, but I'm positive I'd feel the same way at both Kwantlen and Douglas right now too. I'll work as hard as I can to learn the skills I need to be a productive and functional RPN, and impress on my preceptors and instructors that I am ready to take on the challenge of working in the world of psychiatric nursing. Maybe I'll comment again when I finish off first semester and head into my first clinical.

^ Another shill, lol.

And this was the psychiatric nursing program? Or LPN?

So, to check back ink on this thread, I have now graduated from the psyc nursing program and write my licensing exam in a bit over a month. I already have been hired in Fraser health and have 2 other interviews for next week. At least 6 others in my cohort have jobs and many others are interviewing for the different health authorities. While it wasn't always the easiest or smoothest way to learn, I feel confident that I will be successful in the exam.

RPN program at stenberg is garbage.

the LPN program at stenberg is pretty good from what i hear. i know lots of people that have taken it there.

when it comes to online programs and the RPN program at stenberg..take it at an actualy college, not an institution that calls itself stenberg "college" on their business license.

While it may not be the best program nomark, it was the best choice for me and some of my peers who took it. Going to Douglas is not always an option. I needed the flexibility that online learning afforded me. While it definitely has its challenges, I learned a ton and fresh that I am ready for the licensing exam.
