  1. You are misinformed my good ma'am or sir. Nursing is crazy in demand in the USA right now. Maybe not in your state, but its so insane, we have hospital recruiters coming down to our college from Washington, Oregon, California and Arizona because of the amount of vacancies. There are plently more if you actually seek out nhrsing recruiters, but the average theyre offering is a fulltime equivalent wage, relocation allowance, work visa with all fees paid, but you have to commit to 3 years fulltime equivalent. Work visas for nursing so not take five yeara, the average wage time given is 1.3 years.
  2. Nurses are crazy in demand and getting a visa through a hospital or recruiting agency is no issue, it will take about a year though.
  3. Hi there, I am wondering if anyone has any type of support or similar circumstances around my particular situation. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing obtained from Douglas College in BC Canada and am interested in study or work options in the USA. I did not write the NCLEX but am wondering what the degree equivalency is, or if anyone has done this or had their education evaluated. No idea where to start, or if there are any short term Nursing programs in the USA for holders of bachelor degrees. Thank you
  4. If you have passed the NCLEX, you should have no issues getting licensure within the state. Make sure you submit your education for evaluation asap as it takes 8 weeks to process.
  5. RPN program at stenberg is garbage. the LPN program at stenberg is pretty good from what i hear. i know lots of people that have taken it there. when it comes to online programs and the RPN program at stenberg..take it at an actualy college, not an institution that calls itself stenberg "college" on their business license.
  6. AliMC..do not believe newrpn that is a FAKE account that has been going around posting only positive comments about stenberg college, and ONLY on stenberg college posts/forums. Stenberg has their own marketing department that they use to increase their image and obviously to counter any negative reviews that are posted. If you dont believe me, click on NEWRPNs profile and review the posts..only positives and only for stenberg college..as of right now, stenberg has two profiles they use to make positive reviews: NEWRPN and RPNDAN.. beware of these two accounts. Even if one person were to say it was positive, just self reflect on how many hundreds of negative reviews there are online from different people.
  7. I am at douglas college, i am currently in the diploma program, but will be switching into the degree program in january 2016. there is no difference in terms of main theory courses between diploma and degree, nor will instructors know which student is in which program. The experience is awesome. ive been to douglas college, KPU and stenberg and from what ive learned and seen, douglas college is hands down the best college ive ever been too. all your instructors have graduate education and years of experience. my clinical procedures instructor (which is mandatory but somehow stenberg has it as an "online" thing) is amazing, she has advanced specialties in emergency and high acuity and her thats her area of focus in nursing. you really have to do it to understand what im talking about, its better than KPU..douglas was one of the first schools in BC to offer psych nursing. KPU is very disorganized. i was accepted to year 1 degree (which is not PNUR courses, just your first year associated studies), and was waitlisted #7 for diploma. I was offered diploma 2 weeks before school started and took it, now i am halfway done year 1 of diploma (or 2nd year of degree) and will be transferring into year 3 of degree in january 2016. stenberg is garbage. i went there, all my friends went there, its horrible. i have a friend who graduated with me in dec 2010 and still hasnt found a job, she gave up and went to UFV to pursue a degree in social work it was that bad.
  8. as long as you complete the criminal record check application online and pay the money, you are fine, the criminal record check is sent to douglas college, it will explain this in the letter you received. CPI is crisis prevention intervention...it NEEDS TO BE CPI, not NVCI or any other one, the reason why is because CPI is regulated and ensures certain components and criteria are met, it is also standard in health care. As for the immunizations, you should have a nursing booklet..like an immunizations passport or something, as long as you have the bloodwork paper and the thing from the nruse stating its been administered, you should be fine. the public health nurse i had just wrote directly into my immunizations passport. immunizations are free, the TB skin test is not. 52 dollars is expensive, i paid 23 for mine. are you in diploma, degree or 2nd year direct entry?
  9. also, ask all those LPN graduates how many people either failed or discharged themselves from stenberg, they are notorious for failing people and favouritism prevails over all. everyone i know has to commute to school, dont let the commuting discourage you from applying to an actual GOVERNMENT REGULATED SCHOOL that has EQA designation. you will love it. also, the education is soo much cheaper and way better. Also, working while attending school isnt realistic..unless you are working a night shift where you can devote all your time to studying. people underestimate the intensity of an RPN program. if you dont believe me then check this out, stenberg college has been sued for asking their instructors in the RPN program to do/say/teach stuff OUTSIDE THEIR SCOPE OF PRACTICE, which is ILLEGAL!!: Texas man sues Canadian college for breach of contract - Southeast Texas RecordSoutheast Texas Record shady school, unqualified instructors, over priced, not government regulated and unethical practices. avoid this place..LIKE THE PLAGUE
  10. the quality of education being delivered between douglas and stenberg is night and day, douglas is way better, more affordable, better placements, better job prospects. to answer you specific question, there is NO CHANCE IN HELL you will get a job working at inpatient psychiatry as an RPN unless you have experience..thats the big one, many people have registration, and its NOT just about having registration, especially when working in clinical settings. Bachelors degree in psychiatric nursing is becoming the new standard entry to practice because RPNs are considered first contact health care employees and have an increased scope of practice as of APRIL 2014. so the bachelors is the new entry to practice for many areas and the diploma program will eventually be phased out in the next few years.
  11. ok, im going to lay some serious knowledge on you. i went to stenberg for the community support worker, AVOID THIS SCHOOL LIKE THE PLAGUE..DISGUSTING QUALITY OF EDUCATION DELIVERED, OVERPRICED, NOT WORTH THE DRAMA, UNQUALIFIED TEACHERS WITH NO MASTERS DEGREES. They only care about your money, and nothing else. This school does not have a good reputation amongst employers as well as the diploma in psychiatric nursing is always last pick for new hires at fraser health. The psychaitric nursing diploma program may be all online, but it is more than double the price from douglas college, as well as the hands on experience is only during your clinical,..where you are expected to know and perform this stuff before even entering. Also, stenberg has a difficult time finding placements for their psych program because nobody wants them..thats the honest truth. I am currently a psychiatric nursing student at douglas college, ashamed, i almost took it at stenberg because i was desperate to get in, THANK YOU JEBUS I DIDNT GET IN..the school is a disgrace, im ashamed i even went there for my support worker program.
  12. Also, they cannot charge you for immunizations. the only ones they can charge you, that are not covered under MSP is the tuberculosis skin tes, tthey charge you a nursing fee for the RN administering it to you, its around 50 dollars or so, and these appointments you need to take CPI as early as you can, it fills up fast at douglas, and the schedule for nursing students at douglas taking this course is less than ideal.
  13. if you call the faculty, then they will likely give you an extension, not too long though. As long as you can provide proof of the first record of immunizations, then they will have to follow up with you as the immunizations become due, as there is waiting periods. As for the vaccinations, if you do not know which ones you have, your doctor will order a lab requisition and blood test you, then he will determine which vaccines you have..YOU MUST TAKE THIS PAPERWORK WITH YOU, you have to provide proof of immunizations, a doctors signature is good enough for entrance to the program, but you need to provide proof of immunizations while on site at clinicals otherwise they can send you home. You wont be starting actual PNUR clinicals in your first semester, but you will in the second and you need to carry around a binder/dossier with proof of everything that the college asks you to submit.
  14. Hey nicolimuffin (cool name by the way), the answer is NO. they do not care, nor will they know ..so long as the information is completely filled out, you are fine. in the case of my stuff, i had my doctor complete my physical examination and do a lab requisition for blood work. for the vaccinations i needed, i had my doctor give them to me and for the vaccines he didnt have, i went to a public health nurse. usually there is a month or so wait for certain vaccines through public health, but i kind of spinned off the nursing thing and the public health nurse was happy cause im a guy, so she rushed me in the next day haha. it will not block you from getting accepted, but it might be rather difficult to find a walk in doctor who will complete the entire form, seeing as usually it needs to be done by someone whos known you for a long time, either way, as long as its filled out, your golden. Dressage girly, i ALMOST took it with K.T, i didnt because i couldnt stand the thought of a 4 hour class once a week. any more questions people? im on a role :)
  15. dressage girly, are you taking phil 3125 online with E.S as your prof?
