California's 2010 New Grad RN Program

U.S.A. California

2010 is fast approaching so I think there must be a new thread for 2010 new grad program. I hope the moderators will allow me to post this new thread. I'm currently working at Monrovia Memorial Hospital which is 40 miles away from our apt. We live here in Playa del Rey, near the LAX and unfortunately I don't drive yet. I'm looking for any hospitals that offers new grad program for next year. I'm not even sure if I'm still qualified for a new grad program because it will be my 8th month this Jan. working at Monrovia Memorial. Anyone could share any info..Thanks..

I feel like I'm SO screwed at this point. I work at El Camino Hospital in L&D and I've been with the hospital for over 5 years but they are laying off 195 people, including me, so I doubt they will hire any new nurses. I graduated back in May with my BSN and I have yet to get an interview or even a call back or anything yet so this is getting quite discouraging..

I heard about the layoffs. Are they laying off RN based on seniority?

As of the last thing that I heard, they are laying off 42 nurses based upon seniority. I know of one unit that is losing half of their nurses from what I've been told (10-12 nurses). Moral is completely in the gutter..

What a bummer. I always envisioned myself working in there ER especially after the renovations.

A comment to the above message - Aren't you Always a "New Grad" if you got out of school and all the hospitals in your state did NOT have new grad RN programs due to budget cuts and you couldn't even get a job at a nursing home ( RN 2009 graduate in Massachusetts ). They all want "1 year experience"..well guess what, in Massachusetts a new grad RN can't even get a job as a janitor in a hospital right now ( 2010 ) and it is ultra competitive just to get some stinky nursing home job. Everyone is really freaking out!!! Unemployed 2009 RN graduate in Massachusetts

hi everyone i live in sacramento ca. i have been a lvn for over 17 years. i just got my rn bsn from university of phoenix, but no one will hire a new graduate. this stinks. employers have told me that lvn work does not count. i am willing to move to any state except the east coast. i love to get out of ca and move back to fort worth texas. any suggestions? i have applied to over 250 jobs in ca and texas, but i kept being told that i need rn experience. how can one get rn experience when no one wants to give you a chance?

That is a VERY good question - why would 17 years as an LPN not count??

at least in ca lvn is considered a glorified nurses aid. i had several employers tell me that lvn is not nursing. i have bls, acls, pals, iv certification, blood withdraw certification, certified dialysis technician, i worked in acute care most of my career, and yet i am not considered experienced. i wish i had never become a nurse; it was a huge mistake. i love nursing, but what good is it when there are no jobs.

People frown upon the online school. An Np told me that these resumes sometimes get immediately thrown away. Might consider revamping resume to take this off. Where are you applying in TX, consider rural areas.

I applied to Glendale Memorials New Grad program, but I havent gotten any response. I called Human Resources about three weeks ago, but HR said that they had were still reviewing applications. The program is scheduled to start the first week of October, so I am assuming I wasnt chosen, but I was wondering whether anyone got called for an interview???

You can find out the status by logging into your account on their website. I was "Not Selected". ALSO I think some hospitals need to update their system/software/WHATEVER!!!!!! A hospital never updated my profile, although attempted to fix it, now I can't even log in to their system anymore! I am beyond frustrated with their software, it's old and outdated. Venting of course... :hdvwl:

Oh yeah I chose to edit this myself just incase I can't say what hospital lol I dont know how picky this website is.
