I just got a part time jon at RAI dyalisis. I have done dyalisis as LVN. I hope this dyalisis RN experience counts. does dialysis count as acute experience? Will I be able to get a hospital job after 2 years in out patient dyalisis? I am so confused, and my options are limitted. any advice? :uhoh3:

that is true. if you don't have a house or other obligations. i suggest getting out of ca. i am stuck here because my house is upside down. plus, i have worked in sacramento for 14 years as lvn ( i know it's not nursing), but due to my experience i have made a lot of connections. i am hoping that it will help. i have two interviews this week one at dialysis and one with a doctor. i know both people. however, if i could leave ca, i would be gone tomorrow. i hate this state; it is the most prejudices state. at least in texas (my home state) people tell you to your face. good luck to you.

at least in ca lvn is considered a glorified nurses aid. i had several employers tell me that lvn is not nursing. i have bls, acls, pals, iv certification, blood withdraw certification, certified dialysis technician, i worked in acute care most of my career, and yet i am not considered experienced. i wish i had never become a nurse; it was a huge mistake. i love nursing, but what good is it when there are no jobs.

hi everyone i live in sacramento ca. i have been a lvn for over 17 years. i just got my rn bsn from university of phoenix, but no one will hire a new graduate. this stinks. employers have told me that lvn work does not count. i am willing to move to any state except the east coast. i love to get out of ca and move back to fort worth texas. any suggestions? i have applied to over 250 jobs in ca and texas, but i kept being told that i need rn experience. how can one get rn experience when no one wants to give you a chance? :madface::madface::madface::madface::madface::madface::madface:

Thanks for the reply, but I need to clarify. If I want just a nursing home job there are plenty in Sacramento, but the reason I do not is that patients receive poor care. Most nursing homes in Sacramento have one RN for over 36 patients. Additionally, they have the responsibility of supervising LVNs and CNAs. Considering the regulations and the special needs of geriatric clients, the staffing is inadequate to provide quality care. Maybe Texas nursing homes operate differently. Moreover, I love acute care and I would hate to kill my career before it begins. In California, RNs who have long-term care experience only, are considered unskilled. I am truly sad for the poor patients who have to be locked up in a nursing home. Nursing home nurses lack the ability to provide quality care because of inadequate staffing. I love the elderly and I would gladly care for them in any setting as long as adequate staffing is provided. My idea of good staffing is 10 patients for 1 RN and 1 CNA. I prefer to bathe and clean my patients with the CNA. Therefore, nursing homes are not beneath meth, they are simply unsafe.

hello everyone. i am a new grad rn with bsn and phn. i have over 17 years of lvn experience in acute care and other settings. i want to move back to fort worth area since i am unable to find a job in the sacramento, ca area. i want to know what the rn pay is in texas, and where should i look for a job? all the hospitals that i have applied at so far will not consider lvn as nursing experience. i wish i would have never become a nurse. furthermore, i will work at burger king before i work at a nursing home. i have dialysis experience as well. any suggestions?

Call the BRN ask them if your file is complete. I had to take a sealed copy of my transcripts to the BRN. I hand delivered them, then within 24 hrs my license was posted.
