Is Zofran an NSAID? And can it be administered to a patient with a GSW (gun shot wound) to the abdomen??
I know what it's for. It's an antiemetic and I was gonna give zofran was senior medic said give phenergan because zofran is NSAID and he's been shot in abdomen
It's not an NSAID. Have you ever given NSAIDs for nausea/vomiting? Advil? Aleve? Celebrex? Toradol? Right, no, because NSAIDs are for pain/inflammation not nausea. Zofran is a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist.
Please don't try to show off. I asked a question please give me a straightforward respectable answer
It's not showing off. Zofran is a selective 5-HT3 antagonist, not an NSAID. They work in very different ways. In other words, Zofran is good for inhibiting nausea and keeps the barfing to a minimum. Your Senior Medic was incorrect in stating that Zofran is an NSAID.

If you have a patient with a gsw to abdomen which would you prefer zofran or phenergan for nausea/vomiting and why?
Given a choice, I would probably prefer Zofran over Phenergan as Phenergan is an antihistamine (blocks H1) and can be sedating and can antagonize other sedating drugs. I would expect less sedation with Zofran and after surgery, the patient can be given more Zofran PRN.
If I'm not given a choice, I would go with whatever my Medical Director would say that I have to use. Both do have their place though.

Who said that?
No, ondansetron (Zofran) does not have anti-inflammatory effects.
