Hello! I've been out of school 20 yrs and about to start my pre-reqs. I have to take Teas in a couple of months, but don't know where to start. So my question is for people who've been in a similar situation what study guide did you use? Any other books to help you other than the study guide? I've started a refresher on math, just the basics, and working my way up. Any pointers will be appreciated...

I would highly advise that you take the TEAS after your prerequisites (if possible) is they happen to be Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology or Chemistry. The TEAS will be MUCH easier to prepare for after that.
The study guides I used are the ATI TEAS study guide and McGraw although the ATI, for me was the closest to format and content of the real thing. Good luck!

I definitely agree with bratty. If at all possible DO NOT take the teas until you've completed A/P and Chem. Those two classes will help a lot, and it will making studying for the test much less time consuming. In the mean time it wouldn't hurt to start practicing the other sections. Buy the ATI study guide and slowly master each section.
Thank you!

if math isn't your strong point, go on coolmath4kids.com. The TEAS V is basic math at the 7-8th grade level. You'll need to brush up on fractions, order of operations and ratios. The science is the other hard part, honestly, i have no advice other buy the ATI practice tests. I just said a prayer when I got to that part....it is very broad.

Buy the materials (Books and Online assessments) from ATI - it's like $100 but will prepare you for the structure of the test.

I too recommend taking the TEAS after your prereqs. Do not underestimate the TEAS especially the science section That is one difficult exam. In addition, TEAS has a pretty great impact in your nurse app.

I used the TEAS V study manual, and I found it extremely helpful. I read through the entire book cover to cover, marking pages as I went for what I needed to review, then focused the rest of my time on only those pages. This way I was exposed to everything, but could focus my time.
I also agree that you ought to wait until after your prereqs. There are questions that are NOT in the study guide, and you'll know them only from your studies. It's imperative that you do well on the TEAS, as it's a major factor when you apply to schools.
Good luck on your return to school!
