  1. Hi everyone, I am hoping to apply to a BSN program at my local CSU this fall, but am currently ineligible. This program does not allow you to retake any of the prerequisite classes, and I failed one of them almost 10 years ago, well before I was ever even considering pursuing nursing. They do have a general petition that you can file (it's not specific to this type of issue, but just for anything to speak to the department), and I will be doing so shortly. Over the last couple of years my grades have been excellent and I scored a 90+ on the teas. Other than mentioning my recent grades and teas score, is there anything else I can do to help my chances at getting an exemption from this prereq requirement? I'm seriously stressed because I've put so much into pursuing this dream, but might never even get the chance because of a dumb mistake I made when I was 18. Any good advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
  2. Have you considered the possibility that maybe you just got lucky? With countless students taking the TEAS every year, I'm sure at least a few do well due to pure chance.
  3. I used this guide by rainbowvahmet: https://allnurses.com/teas-exam-help/how-i-passed-804222.html I studied for about 2 months and scored a 90.6% overall, including a 100% in the math section and a 90% in the science section. The math section is very predictable and easy, but you need to a lot of practice problems until you feel you have mastered the material. The ATI study guide along with some youtube videos showing how to solve work problems should be all you need. The science is much more difficult to prepare for. The ATI guide can help, but any tiny detail could be a possible question. One of the best ways to prepare other than the study guide, is to take the online practice tests on ATI. Identify your weak areas and focus your energy on resolving them.
  4. Hi Kay, I would be livid if the proctor was talking during my exam. That is not acceptable at all, and can definitely have a negative impact on scores for everyone. Other than taking your next attempt at a different location, my only advice is to get back to hitting those books. How many hours do you estimate you spent working on the study guide? DO NOT rush. Try and master each section before moving on. Good luck to you and don't give up.
  5. I definitely agree with bratty. If at all possible DO NOT take the teas until you've completed A/P and Chem. Those two classes will help a lot, and it will making studying for the test much less time consuming. In the mean time it wouldn't hurt to start practicing the other sections. Buy the ATI study guide and slowly master each section.
  6. I scored in the mid 80's on both online practice exams, and a 90.6 on my actual TEAS test. I found the Reading to be very similar except that it had longer paragraphs to read. It also had less trick questions, which was nice. The math was actually much easier on the real exam for me. I scored 100% on this section and knew it the second I finished. Science was as random as always. English was almost identical to the practice exams.
  7. I know the feeling. It can be disheartening looking at the massive book and thinking any minute detail could be a possible exam question. This is especially true for the sciences. Just try to remember that the best things in life are worth fighting for! If you really want to pursue a career in nursing, you're going to have to give it everything you've got, especially with how competitive things are right now. Slowing and meticulously work through a couple of pages of the ATI study guide every day until you make it all the way through. After that, take one of the online practice tests on the ATI website to identify your weaknesses. Hit the books again and work on your weaknesses. You can do it!
  8. Hi run, I'm interested in attending a nursing program in the Bay Area, but have also repeated some prereqs. I failed Stats and English (twice) many many years ago, but recently passed both with A's. Not counting those fails, my prereq GPA is a 4.0 and I scored a 90+ on the teas. Any advice on where I might have the best chance at getting accepted into an affordable program in northern CA?
