Greetings All,

I am considering writing a monthly article/blog post on topics related to Clinical, Nursing, Healthcare and Medical Informatics for allnurses.com

I have written such content for other sources over the last 10+ years and several people have suggested that I do something on-going for allnurses.com too.

My only concern is that with my full time job responsibilities along with family and personal responsibilities being able to consistently come up with relevant content can be a struggle.

So I am coming to you the NI Forum members, to ask:

What topics would you like me to address, cover, and touch on related to Nursing, Healthcare and Medical Informatics?

What would you like to read or learn about in more detail related to this specialty?

What issues related to NI and healthcare IT impact your current clinical practice?

What don't you understand about Meaningful Use and ARRA? or HIPAA or the Electronic Medical Record??

Speak up!

Interoperability, Meaningful Use and its impact on Nursing Informatics, Nursing Informatics and Quality Improvement, Clinical Decision Support for Nursing Practice

I want to enter the field and would like to get your advice on how to achieve that goal. I understand many just fall in to a position. I want to purposefully go in that direction. My IT background was as an operator, not programming or such. So I would like to see some organized content geared to beginners.

when i said policy making, i mean if you are building a nursing informatics department from scratch which i am currently doing for my hospital and i wanted to ask your help on that. and as for new info for new NI, here are examples:

1) what is NI

2) how do you become an NI nurse

3) how do you contact other NI who are much experienced like mentoring

4) things that many experienced NI nurses know that newbies don't know

5) what would you have done differently looking back

Leekun,

I want you to look up The Advisory Board Company and join. You can join for free using your hospital. Then contact them and have them send you free copies of Second-Generation Patient Safety Systems - Nursing Technology Scan and Unlocking the Potential of Nursing IT- Best Practices for Optimizing Systems in an Integrated Environment.

In both these Best Practice Reports from the Nursing Executive Center you will find content on starting a NI department, best practices for system design, wonderful content on nursing decision support systems/clinical practice alerts that are not just for physicians, how to stream line electronic nursing documentation, improving clinician access to information systems, the status of NIC,NOC and NANDA in current acute care hospitals and A LOT MORE!

Enjoy!

Keep checking back here at the NI forum and I'll do a blog piece comparing several of the major HIS vendors in the near future! Thanks for the great ideas!

Keep um comin!

Hi I am Mike and I am very much interested regarding your proposition and I'm very willing to help write articles for allnurses.com. I'm currently a blogger and a writer and was previously an editor-in-chief of a nursing magazine in our college.

I have read some of your responses in this forum and I'm amazed by your range of experience regarding NIT.

It made me (an aspiring NIT) smile and excited by giving us hints regarding this field.

So going on...(sorry for the long introduction)

What topics would you like me to address, cover, and touch on related to Nursing, Healthcare and Medical Informatics?

  • What is the Career Path of a Medical Informatics major?
  • How to become one?
  • Differentiating Universities that offer this course.
  • What are the advantages of being a NIT as compared to other fields?
  • What are the main responsibilities of an NIT?
  • Surviving the MSN Nursing Informatics track
  • Distance education for aspiring NIT.
  • Student's Guide for NIT.

I'll try to think of other topics.

Glad to meet you all!

Thank you Mike.

Nice to e-meet you. Thank you for your topic suggestions and numerous posts to this forum today. I'm going to allow a little more time for additional input from other Nursing Informatics forum visitors to contribute.

I also don't want to limit my blog posts and articles to just nursing informatics or nursing informatics education so....

Hey perhaps you can write from your perspective of a nursing student in the Philipines and Nursing Informatics in the Philipines?

Please check with Brian and the Moderator of the Nursing Student Forum... and I think there is also a Philipino Nurse Forum as well - I'm sure they would also greatly appreciate your contributions.

Many Thanks!
