Tools, games, resources you use to teach in the classroom
What games, teaching techniques, team assignments, teaching tools do you use in theory classes. I currently teach LVN students. I have used Kahoots, Quizlet, made Jeopardy and Bingo games. I have had students break up into groups and create a drug or teaching pamphlet, in groups pick an infection and act out the chain of infection using skills lab items as props. In groups have had them teach the class a concept, or some topic. Have had students write on the blackboard one thing they learned that day, or one thing that is still not clear. I am trying to avoid me being the "Sage on the Stage" where I do all the talking and where they are not necessarily active learners or engaged. I would appreciate any and all suggestions related to other in-class activities you use or can think of. Thank you in advance.

Fired. How To Get Over It.
I've been an RN for over 30 years. I was terminated for the first time in my nursing career for starting an IV on a patient without having completed the IV competency. Patient was not injured and they even kept my IV site and infusion going after I had left. I have over 30 years of infusion and hi-tech IV experience. The organization posted a complaint to the Nursing State Board that I had maliciously and incompetently performed these actions. I think this should have been a written disciplinary action. There was an investigation and the Nursing Board found I did nothing outside the scope of my practice, or dangerous enough to warrant my license being suspended or disciplinary action. I did break policy and it was an error in judgement I admit. I have secured another job. There was never anything asked on the employment app about previous terminations. But, I worry that the employer learns of my firing and terminates me. Could they? How do I get rid of this scared/apprehensive feeling? How to I respond if in the future I am asked by an employer? Any and all assistance is appreciated.

Certified Home Health Aide Supervisories
My apologies if this question has been asked and answered in the past. I did a search and couldn't find anything. For perspective I am at a Home Health agency in California What do other Home Health agencies do related to compliance with the CHHA every 14 days visit being done? Do other's track, and plot the visit for the nurse for a CHHA supervisory visit, then also track whether or not it was done, and then communicate the the nurse's manager if it was not done? Or do other HHA just take the hit if upon survey they are out of the 14 day compliance reg? Any and all assistance is appreciated in advance.

DNP Project site needed ASAP
Thank you. I don't need a specific geographical location. It all can be done remotely. I need either two ambulatory clinic offices or two hospice offices or two home health offices. Are you in a Doctoral program?

DNP Project site needed ASAP
I am a Doctoral Student (DNP - concentration Informatics Leadership) at American Sentinel University. I am in dire need of a site to conduct my DNP Project. I need a multi-office ambulatory clinic, home health or hospice organization that has at least two offices. Each office must have at least 50 clinicians (any combination of RN, LPN/LVN, SN, HHA, CNA, MA, PT, OT, MSW, etc) who use the electronic documentation system. The ambulatory clinics, HH or hospice organization can be located anywhere in the US as the project can be accomplished virtually. I need to conduct my quality improvement project during late November or December of this year - 2019. I can provide additional details and answer any question anyone may have as I have passed my deadline with ASU and am currently in a holding pattern and unable to proceed with the program. Please feel free to pass my request on to anyone you think would be able to provide me with a project site or facilitate same. Thank you Angela Lewis, MBA-IT, RN-BC, FHIMSS 847-530-11253

Applying for Online College
Have you thought about taking on project management, instructional design, ICD 10 or any assignments/project(s) that will add to your leadership skill set? All of the above would work towards "acquiring and building a skill-set that crosses multiple vendor products and platforms"

Limited EHR program experience
My questions would be: Other than as an end user do you have any other experience and with which type of clinical applications/software/programs? Specific software/vendor names please. Think you would increase your chances of securing an entry level role depending on how much super user experience you have had and how well you can transition your nursing skills to what is needed to practice as an informatics nurse. Have you participating in any of the building, testing go live or other super user activites at your facility? Have you been a member of any of the implementation, testing, training or post go live optimization teams? There are many of us who got are start without prior experience and learned on the job. Today's environment is very competitive and demanding and many hiring managers want folks with experience who can hit the ground running - that is not saying there are not entry level positions out there, as there are. Strongly suggest you do your due dilligence, use this forum as a one tool to learn more about the speciality, what skills are required and what roles are available. Good Luck

I passed my certification exam!!
It all depends on what geographic location you are looking in, what or if you have any previous informatics experience, whether or not you are willing to take an entry level position, what and how much past clinical experience you have. There is not just one answer to your questions. Please use this forum to learn what other's have shared.

Does it matter where you get your Masters?
I know several well established informaticists with degrees from U of Phoenix, Walden, Excelsior, U of Chicago, Northwestern, etc What matters is that the school is accredited and the course content is in line with what you want to do in the specialty.

Advice On New Job Offer
Agrees with Traveler4life, This is a wonderful opportunity if your career goals lean towards informatics. You have some clinical experience and you have nursing knowledge so look for a way to work 1 shift per month or something....but take the role with the vendor and learn, learn, learn. Good Luck

Nursing Informatics or Health Informatics?
Greetings Paulschwinn, Welcome to the NI Forum. Perhaps the other informaticians that frequent this forum are otherwise occupied with family and leisure activities, this being the weekend and for some the start of PTO/vacation in anticipation of the 4th of July Holiday. To assist you in using the NI forum - Please come out of this post, go to the top of the main NI forum page and click on the "Go to Stickies" button which will scroll you down to content on the difference between NI, medical and healthcare informatics.....and much, much more! To search the NI forum, again return back up to the top of the NI forum page, below "Start a New Topic Now" you will see a magnifying glass and to the right an arrow, click on the arrow and enter in search words (such as advance degree or Masters in healthcare informatics, etc) in the field labeled "Search this section", click on Go. Many of us (myself included as forum moderator) visit and post to this forum in our spare time second only to working full time in our primary roles. Additionally many of us also travel, teach and have multiple responsibilities thereby negating an immediate (or even 24-48 hour) response to posts. Qualities and characteristics needed the most to practice successfully in this specialty are the ability be a proactive, self directed and independent information seeker - one needs to have more than one resource for seeking answers and researching questions. I humbly invite you to read and utilize previous posts and content on this forum for knowledge and answers, as your questions posted here since yesterday might not get a response in a time frame that meets your immediate needs. Be reassured that the questions you have posted above have been asked and answered numerous times. I am confident you will locate a wealth of content. Although, legal questions related to licensure are outside the scope of this forum and its members. Good Luck and have a Wonderful 4th of July Holiday!
