York University 2nd Entry Nursing 2014

World Canada CA Programs

Hi everyone!

Interested to know who else will be applying for the 2nd entry program at York U for Fall 2014!

I'm officially a nursing student!!! Just got accepted today. It's not yet update on OUAC but it's a huge sigh of relief.

Congrats on getting in, Hopeful-RN!

While I'm only starting the program in September like everyone else here, I know that last year clinicals were from 7 AM to 3 PM and I'm pretty certain the hours are the same every year (except for those that get an evening/night shift).

Also the textbooks seem to be the same every year (at least in the last 2-3 years) and generally newer editions don't vary too much from older ones. With that said I advise waiting until the first week of classes to buy your books if possible to make sure you get only what you need. There are always plenty of nursing students selling their old textbooks on FB.

Hey guys!

I was wondering whether any of you guys know whether York is still accepting external applicants. Myfile still says no decision yet. I have a 75 cumulative and about a 79.8 in my last 10 credits.

Thanks!

Hey Hopeful-RN, I was just wondering how you found out you got accepted and if you're an external student! When I called in earlier last week they had said that they are not sure how many spots are still left! MyFile still says no decision yet; also I was wondering what your acceptance averages were. Im going into panic mode considering I had the admission averages ( 75 overall, and about a 79.8 in my last 10)!

Thanks !!

Yes, York is still accepting external applicants although they might be wait-listed now (not sure). Your average is high enough for acceptance, are you sure you fulfilled all the pre-reqs? You have to make sure they're on York's Second-entry BScN degree Equivalency List.

If you received your final grades for any pre-reqs in the last few weeks that could explain the delay.

Thanks guys for the congrats and likes.

Hey Aspiring_n,

To build on top of what xibb said, York may be waiting for people who got their acceptance to respond to their offer because I was given two weeks to accept my offer. Maybe those who got their acceptance are waiting until last minute to respond hoping that their dream school will accept them before the deadline comes up. So don’t give up hope just yet. Remember, people can still cancel their offer once their dream school accepts them.

I understand how you feel. Just by looking through this forum and reading that people with similar grades as you are getting accepted and you haven’t definitely sends you into panic mode but like xibb said, if you recently sent York your final and updated transcript (assuming you’re graduating this year), that could be the delay.

Don’t quote me on this, I kinda think York also consider your mark for the pre-reqs as well. Not just your overall and last 5 full credits. But like I said, don’t quote me on that.

I’m throwing out an idea here: if you are graduating this year, did you ask them if your application was even looked at with the updated transcript? They could be swamped with applications that they forgot to review yours with the new transcript.

That being said, I am an external applicant. I logged onto MyFile at like 9-10am and saw that I was admitted. It wasn’t until maybe 1pm that I got their acceptance email. Still haven’t got my acceptance package (anxiously and excitingly waiting for it). My overall was a 75 and last 5 (last 30 credits) was 76.8 (I didn’t calculate my last 10).

I don’t know what else to say to make you feel better but honestly, wait it out. It may seem like your chances of getting accepted gets slimmer as the day goes by especially with July and August coming up but there is a waitlist, people do get off of it. Don’t give up until you actually see rejected or unsuccessful - program is full on your MyFile.

Last year’s York University Second Entry forum showed that some got accepted towards the end of June and even early July. Wait it out!

Hello Folks

I was wondering if any external applicants heard anything from york??

a friend of mine applied for 2nd entry and york responded 2 him today saying program is full, however he is offered degree in BHSC (eventhough he holds degree in kin from york):S:S

Is york sending out offers 2 external applicants or program is full??

please post up if any external applicants heard from york this week

Although the program is full, some students who have accepted York's offer of admission are still waiting for an acceptance from their preferred program and will revoke that decision if they get into another program. If there is a wait list then the student that is currently first on the wait list will then get that spot. Similarly York might still be waiting for some students to accept or reject their offer, and those who reject will make room for others in the program.

Unfortunately for your friend, once you receive an alternate acceptance (to BHS) you are no longer considered for the 2nd entry BScN program. :(

@ lucky_r

Hi! May I ask if you know what your friend's cumulative and last 10 marks are like? I'm also an external and waiting. Thanks!

Hey Guys,

Does anyone have any information on how we're suppose to go about with the Police Check, Immunization, and the CPR Certificate? Would we get more information during our enrolment appointment? The police check takes about 8-12 weeks according to 2013-2014 School of Nursing Undergraduate Supplemental Calendar and we need it done before Practicum so it seems like we should get a start on that.

You should get your police check done mid-June, ideally. You can enrol in the CPR course online. It takes place at York. It's best to do that in August so you can use it for next summer too, rather than having to do it again before the summer semester. The immunizations will take a month because you have to go back to the doctor 3 or 4 times. I plan to start the process for that in mid-July/August, but be sure to book your appointment in advance.

If you look at York's website you can find a list of what you need to get done there. I would provide the link but there website seems to be down right now. There is also a mandatory orientation that takes place in September (I think on the 3rd), but there will be a sign up link for that during your enrolment appointment.

Hey ambrr,

Are you talking about this?
