York University 2nd Entry Nursing 2014

Hi everyone!

Interested to know who else will be applying for the 2nd entry program at York U for Fall 2014!

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to sign up for the CPR certification class and it said for 2nd entry nursing students, the CPR dates are September 19 & 26 but there's no option for September enrolment. Any ideas why?

Also, the CPR course is from 12-6pm on the 19 and 26 but we have class that time (NURS 1511 from 11:30-2:30). Does anyone have any ideas why they would set up 2 CPR class options for us during lecture time?

It doesn't seem like the sign up dates are available for the September classes yet. This is likely to prevent collaborative and IEN nursing students from accidentally enrolling in them. They should be made available at a later date.

I'm sure the NURS 1511 professor will understand that some students will have to miss class to attend their CPR certification, after all that is when the program decided to schedule the classes.

Also you don't have to take your CPR class in September. You can take it any time before then if you'd like. Just keep in mind that your CPR certification (1 year) must be valid for the entire semester (excluding the exam period). I.e. if your CPR certification expires in the middle of a semester, you have to renew it before the start of that semester. For this reason it's best to get your CPR certification done in mid or late August (or September), so that it will be valid throughout your fall, winter, and summer semesters.

Hi Hopeful-RN,

Have you joined the York University Second Entry Nursing Class of 2016 on Facebook? If not, then you should search for it and join as you would find your questions already addressed by numerous classmates. We are to take the CPR Level HCP (Full Course) for York University which has several available dates available from June to August. I have mine booked for August 27 cos we were advised to take it in August so that it is still valid for the summer semester next year. Although it is valid for 3 years, we have to re-certify it yearly and it will be too much hassles to have to do it mid-semester. The N95 Mask Fit testing is the one we have to schedule for September 23rd. That test is for 30 minutes and should not disturb your lectures as numerous times are available.

Is there a reason you want to wait until September to take it? I've scheduled mine for August, that way there's no concern over getting it done amongst classes.

Since we had to make sure the CPR certificate is valid until the end of placement or August (can't recall it right now), I wanted to do it as late as possible so I don't have to go through the hassle of taking the course again during school/exam period. When I tried signing up, the last couple of days in August was full and the last open class in August is the 13th. So I thought maybe doing it in September would guarantee that I don't have to take it again. Plus, what I've been gathering, we have until mid-October to get our CPP signed so I thought taking it in September would be fine.

Just wanna say, I said above that your CPR certification must be valid for the entire semester (this is fact) excluding the exam period but I might be wrong about it being okay if it expires during the exam period.

I can't edit the post now unfortunately. :(

I would email nursing and ask if your CPR certification has to be valid until the end of classes or until the end of the exam session. If it's only until the end of classes then taking the August 13th class will be fine (summer classes always end by the first week of August, exams usually end around the 18th or so). If you do this, let us know what they say!

Taking the class in September is fine, but you'll miss a day of classes. You can always get notes or a recording from a friend.

At the worst if you have to renew your CPR before the summer '15 term you would have to take it on a weekend or our day off, during the February reading week, or during the 4-5 days between the end of winter exams and the deadline for the summer CPP stamping (and our exams won't take up the entire 2 week exam period either).

The sign up for the CPR class on September 19th is now available.

hey guys, i'm totally new to this, but i had a question. as an internal applicant, would i have to send in my final transcripts to york? i've completed all my prereqs and still anxiously waiting for a reply :(

hey guys, im new to this and my questions is about another topic, but i was wondering if internal applicants have to send york a transcript of their final marks? ive completed all my prereqs, and im still waiting for york's decsion. im wondering whether they are waiting for a transcript or not? :(

No, you don't have to send any transcripts (or proof of enrolment) to York if you're an internal applicant.

Hope you hear good news soon!

RE: clinical hours

I said in a previous post that clinicals are usually from 7 AM-3 PM but they can also be at 7:30 AM-3:30 PM, 11 AM-7 PM, or 2 PM-10 PM. The class schedule for our first clinical class says our clinicals will be from either 7AM-3PM or 2PM-10PM. We don't get to choose what time we have our clinicals.

This info was taken from the moodle page for NURS 1900.
