I saw my OB today. I am 13weeks 4days pregnant. I have a yeast infection! A bad one. (Sorry for the TMI) He prescribed Diflucan, because I tried monistat and it made it worse. I asked him if this was safe and he said yes, but, all the info I can find on the net says it is not recommended. I just thought maybe I could get some input? Thanks for any advice or suggestions. I am miserable.

Sorry! I had one the whole time I was pregnant. It just WOULDN'T go away, at times it would be tolerable, but still there. If it does go away, try to decrease sugar and increase your yogart intake to prevent it from coming back. I'm so sorry for you. I did try Diflucan twice with no relief. My baby was fine! I hope someone else has more help.

If you are uncomfortable taking the medication, please discuss this with your doctor. Perhaps he and your pharmacist can either put your mind at ease or recommend an alternative.

In addition to the Diflucan, go to the store and get some Acidophalus (sp?) capsules. These are just friendly bacterial to re-populate your gut and get the yeast under control.
Decrease your sugar and juice intake. If it persists, I would have your glucose tolerance test early (in addition to the 28 week one).
Yeast infections are very common in pregnancy, by the way. With resistant ones, you might want to talk to your partner about being treated as well.

Sorry to read this, I have never been pregnant but have gotten a few of those mainly from medications. Best thing I have tried is Difflucan. Go to the pharmacy and they should be able to recommend something for you. Remember to take lots of water and cranberry juice (not just for UTI's) and also when I used to work as a tech, we used to recommend yougurt because of the active cultures in them, (Acidophilus) :)
Good luck to you and congrats on your pregnancy.

I am 19 weeks and have had one for pretty much the entire time. It seems to get better, worse, and somewhere in between. I am going to go to my midwife in 2 weeks, and I'll let you know what she/they (there's 2 of them with 2 doctors) say. Good luck--to us both!

I didn't get capsules, what I got was little granules that I kept in the fridge and sprinkled in my food.melissa

I got a horrible, horrible yeast infection while on hospitalized bed rest--diflucan took care of it and my daughter is a happy, healthy 5 year old now.

it's always a good move to ask a pharmacist about medications during pregnancy or other times. They are the ones in the know. I have a couple of suggestions that compliment medical treatment of yeast infections:
Increase your consumption of things known to decrease yeast populations, like yogurt with active live cultures, and specifically, acidophillus. REDUCE any sugary, white, starchy foods, like candies, rice, pasta, etc. Yeast THRIVES on sugar.
Also make sure you not diabetic????? If you have pre-diabetes or GDM (gestational diabetes mellitus) you are going to be VERY prone to yeast infections---for the same reason. High blood sugar levels.
Good luck and never be afraid to ask questions, either of your OB or pharmacists. You have every right to feel confident in your treatment regimen. I wish you a healthy pregnancy.

Another thought....
If you are suffering from recurrent yeast infections there is one cause often overlooked, your partner. He may need a course of meds also. It is very common to be reinfected because he has it also. Guys are just not as symptomatic. Frquent yeast infections durring pregnancy themselves are common just because of the hormonal and ph changes associated with pregnancy.
good point, Lisa.
